Assistant or Associate Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine (Tenure Track)

Job Description

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine in the University of Southern California (USC) invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure track) or an Associate Professor (tenured). USC, founded in 1880, is the largest private employer in the City of Los Angeles. As an employee of USC, you will be part of a world-class research university and a member of the “Trojan Family”, which is comprised of the faculty, students, and staff that make up the university. The Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine Department seeks to recruit an outstanding scientist who employs cutting-edge technologies and experimental systems to pursue an ambitious and innovative biomedical research program; candidates with PhDs, MD/PhDs, or MDs are encouraged to apply. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research focuses on the mechanistic aspects of cancer initiation or progression and the development of target-specific inhibitors that can reverse the pathogenic symptoms. Researchers who have a strong desire to forge collaborations across departments, by integrating their own technological expertise with disease experts throughout the campus, are especially encouraged to apply.

The research space for this recruitment will be within the Keck School of Medicine at the Health Sciences Campus of USC. Significant resources are available to support research throughout the medical campus, including core facilities available in the USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Zilkha Neurogenetic Institute, the Broad Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research, and the Institute of Translational Genomics. Excellent collaborative opportunities exist between individuals and departments on the Health Sciences Campus, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, and the USC University Park Campus.  In addition to overseeing their own independent research group, the new recruit will have an opportunity to participate in the educational mission of the Department and the Keck School of Medicine by teaching and training MS, PhD, and medical students.

The position requires a Ph.D. or M.D. and relevant postdoctoral experience.  Faculty rank will be determined by the qualifications of the successful candidate.

“The annual base salary range for the Assistant Professor is $120,000- $150,000. The salary range for an Associate Professor is $150,000-$200,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.”

The successful candidate will be provided with a competitive startup package.

The University of Southern California strongly values diversity and is committed to equal opportunity in employment. Women and men, members of all racial and ethnic groups, people with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply.
