Required Qualifications*

  • Applicants should have an M.D.
  • Hold or have the ability to obtain the appropriate medical licenses in the State of Michigan. Evidence ofclinical competence is expected. Preferred candidate will possess the critical elements of teaching(knowledge of subject matter, skill in presentation, enthusiastic approach, integrity etc.)

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.

Job openings are posted for a minimum of seven calendar days.  The review and selection process may begin as early as the eighth day after posting. This opening may be removed from posting boards and filled anytime after the minimum posting period has ended.

The Department of Neurosurgery, over the last 10+ years, has identified ideal candidates for an enhanced educational training opportunity in Complex Open and Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery for one-year periods.  This enhanced clinical training experience assists in the further development and advanced learning in spine has gained a national and international reputation.  This program focuses on complex patient management of patients with disorders of the spine. 

The program has received national acclaim via numerous past trainees who have subsequently been recognized for the unique expertise in this neurosurgical sub-specialty.  The success of this program has also led to scholarly activity including clinical studies and impactful publications.  Mentorship is led by Dr. Osama Kashlan, with enrichment by multiple other Faculty who also participate and provide teaching opportunities to the candidate.  The collaborative effort of these Faculty has been one of the key drivers in making this enhanced clinical training experience a highly esteemed and recognized training opportunity.
