The Academic and Career Coordinator supports the combined efforts of Instructional Services and Student Services, acting as the primary liaison to students and college community members in relation to career connected learning pathways. In their role as Coordinator, this position will support the operations of the college’s grant funded Advising, Retaining, Inspiring, and Completing (ARIC) Project and educational pathways grants through student advising and retention efforts, in combination with career services and administrative supports.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Student Engagement (50%)

  1. Act as a contact for information and outreach for identified cohort of First Year Experience students 
  2. Conduct regular meetings with identified students to aid in course selection, academic pathways, and collect qualitative data
  3. Monitors academic progress of assigned cohorts of students from onboarding to completion including assisting students in selecting course work appropriate to their Pathway of career and academic goals.
  4. Collaboratively assists students in creating an educational plan that shows the academic requirements for them to meet their goals.
  5. Maintains contact with individual students regularly and provides referrals and support services as needed.
  6. Empowers students by assisting them in skill building in time management, financial planning, interpersonal communication, and personal accountability
  7. Identify potential education pathways students and advise on related opportunities 

Career Connected Learning Services (25%)

  1. Create and maintain a database of local industry partners
  2. Assists in managing special events and their logistics (i.e., job fairs, career opportunity lectures, info sessions, networking events, 
  3. Works with advising team to develop strategies for student transitions to college and from college to employment.
  4. Assists students with career and academic Pathways exploration, job search skills, and planning for future employment or transfer.
  5. Develop strong community partner relationships to encourage college to career pathways 
  6. Work with local elementary schools to maintain placement data for teacher assistant internship opportunities
  7. Work with institutional partners to promote up to date workforce opportunities 

Research and Information Collation (15%)

  1. Identify cohort for research purposes, as well as related control group
  2. Gather data through regular student interaction and campus information hub (Nexus)
  3. Maintain detailed database related to research outcomes and assessment
  4. Make regular updates to database
  5. Work with Dean to ensure research standards and processes
  6. Maintains case files and documentation for individual students to track ongoing progress toward attainment of academic goals and provides unofficial evaluation of degree and/or certificate requirements.
  7. Maintain alumni database of students from identified cohorts who completed their programs

Administrative Support/Other Duties as Assigned (10%)

  1. Develop, implement, and manage centralize procedures and pertinent documents for accelerated college credit programs;
  2. Collaborates with Student Services and Instructional Administrators teams for implementing strategies to increase student success and retention. Gathers statistical information for data driven decision making to ensure student success.
  3. Support logistics and organization of personnel-related processes (i.e. faculty hiring, training, and evaluation tracking);
  4. Collaborate with appropriate departments to ensure adherence to internal procedures, including Student Services, Business Office and Instructional Services;
  5. Provide primary support to accelerated college credit students to ensure timely registration and invoicing, and to inform and connect these students with the appropriate Student Services staff to facilitate and address interest in transition to college programs;
  6. Assist in the production and review of the quarterly schedule of classes.
  7. Participate in college, community, and state meetings or initiatives as assigned;
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EXPERIENCE

  1. Three-five years of closely related work experience required;
  2. Experience working with students
  3. Experience with project and initiative management
  4. Prior experience with student services and/or instructional services departments in a higher education environment preferred
  5. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

  1. Bachelor’s degree in education, business administration or degree related to area of job focus, or another job-related field. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  2. Bachelor’s degree greatly preferred.

  3. Demonstrate knowledge and good judgment in matters of college policy and procedures.
  4. Be highly detail oriented;
  5. Ability to build supportive relationships with students and staff through strong interpersonal skills. 
  6. Possess problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  7. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others;
  8. Possess interpersonal communication skills such as tact, patience, and courtesy when communicating in person, over the phone, or through email;
  9. Meet schedules and timelines;
  10. Ability to work well without close supervision to complete projects and tasks
  11. Possess knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, equipment, computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, desk-top publishing, web page creation and updating, and other office equipment;
  12. Familiarity with Google office suites, such as calendar, sheets, and drive

The employee must occasionally lift, and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Schedule may require occasional evening or weekend work or travel between the two campuses or to other locations. Work schedule may also be modified during peak registration times.

Starting Salary Expectations

 $43,263- $47,257 yr. based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
