| Job Summary | The Center for Advanced Pain Studies (paincenter.utdallas.edu) and the Departments of Bioengineering and Neuroscience is soliciting applications for a full-time postdoctoral research associate with training in electrophysiology, pharmacology, and/or assay development. We are interested in developing a new high-content screening assay to screen for novel natural product analgesic compounds. The screening process involves Axion-based multi-electrode arrays using commercially available human sensory neurons. Additional requirements include excellent statistical skills; excellent interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; strength in team building; a commitment to the development of and scholarly participation in pain and stress research programs at the University of Texas at Dallas. |

| Preferred Education and Experience | Work requires a Doctoral degree in biomedical engineering, pharmacology, neuroscience, physiology, or an equivalent field and previous related experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the essential job functions. This may include but is not limited to knowledge of basic and advanced laboratory techniques; ability to develop experimental procedures and to report results accurately; ability to keep an inventory of materials and equipment, requisition supplies, and maintain purchasing documentation; ability to use laboratory materials and equipment properly to assure the validity of results and preserve a safe working environment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff and students; and knowledge of computer applications used to record, analyze, and report findings. |
| Essential Duties and Responsibilities | The Research Associate will make use of cell culture, extracellular electrodes, and pharmacology techniques including but not limited to multielectrode arrays, drug dose-response assays, statistical analysis, and nociceptor activation paradigms. Experience with electrophysiology (extracellular, patch, etc.) is required. Assignments and work evaluation will be received from the professor/grant administrator (Principal Investigators), Drs. Benedict Kolber, Joseph Pancrazio, and Gregory Dussor. Additional guidance is provided through University regulations for environmental safety. Supervision and monitoring may be exercised over students and staff working in the laboratory. ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:
