Job Summary

The incumbent’s duties may include, but will not be limited to, supporting the management and coordinating of the tasks of multiple health services research studies, overseeing study management; manage and report on study results; create, clean, update, and manage databases and comprehensive datasets and reports. This position involves analysis and evaluation of the evidence base supporting medical devices that are currently used in clinical practice as well as payor coverage policies. It involves policy analysis and development/writing new policies to help ensure that patients receive evidence-based care.  As a small portion of the overall position responsibilities, this role shall:  participate in the review and writing of protocols to ensure institutional review board approval within University compliance; help assure compliance with all relevant regulatory agencies; oversee study data integrity; implement and maintain periodic quality control procedures; interface with collaborating investigators within the UCSF system and other institutions around the country; maintain all regulatory documents; report study progress to investigators; and participate in any internal and external reviews of study protocols.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

The Division of Cardiology is one of the largest clinical, research and training divisions of the Department of Medicine (DOM) at UCSF and is recognized for innovation and world class patient care, research and training.
We have one of the most prestigious cardiology training programs in the country and our mission is to provide the best possible care to all patients with cardiovascular disease, and to make important discoveries that benefit patients and offer the best training in cardiology.

Within our Division are sub-specialty sections for: Adult Congenital Heart Disease; Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant; Cardiac Electrophysiology; Echocardiography and Cardiac Imaging; General Cardiology; Interventional Cardiology; and Prevention. The Division runs clinical practices in multiple sites, conducts basic and clinical research, and educates medical students, residents, clinical fellows and postdoctoral scholars. In addition, the Division has 60 full-time faculty, six non-faculty academics, 36 clinical fellows, three post-doctoral research fellows, and 57 research support and administrative staff.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and minimum one year experience/ or equivalent combination of experience / training
  • Working knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs
  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality
  • Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns
  • Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding time frames
  • Attention to detail; strong interpersonal skills; excellent, effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with subjects, team members, other departments and outside institutions; and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while working

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, research policies and guidelines, guidelines for packing/shipping infectious substances, database building/analysis, and data management
  • Working knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques
  • Good Clinical Practice Guidelines
