Job Description

A postdoctoral fellow position is available at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, to perform state-of-the-art CRISPR/Cas9 screens to identify novel therapeutic targets for treating hematopoietic stem cell diseases. Dr. Tong’s laboratory studies cytokine receptor signaling in replication stress, DNA repair, and ubiquitin signaling in hematopoietic stem cells, bone marrow failure, and leukemia. Hematopoietic stem cells give rise to all circulating blood cells throughout life. Maintenance of stem cell self-renewal, proliferation and differentiation is regulated by complex signaling pathways. Aberrant regulation leads to leukemia or cancer in general. Genome integrity plays a critical role in blood development and the prevention of leukemia and ageing. This postdoctoral fellow position will focus on studying the mechanisms that safeguard the genome during DNA replication and investigating how failures in these processes impact hematopoietic stem cell function that leads to bone marrow failure and/or leukemia. CRISPR screens with our expert collaborators will delineate a new understanding of stem cell fitness upon replication stress and point to potentially druggable pathways for intervention in the treatment of diseases with stem cell dysregulation.
