Mountain Gateway Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of 23 community colleges in Virginia. The college is supported by the Commonwealth of Virginia; the counties of Alleghany, Bath, Botetourt (northern portion) and Rockbridge; the cities of Buena Vista, Covington, and Lexington; and the town of Clifton Forge. MGCC provides opportunities for the extension of knowledge, skills and personal enrichment in an environment that maintains high academic standards and respect for each individual. The Development Officer will lead a comprehensive annual giving program. She/he will have responsibility for planning and coordinating all appeals and campaigns. Responsible for cultivating, solicitating and stewarding donors capable of giving a minimum of $500.00; planning and executing all events including the Foundation’s Signature Event; managing the donor recognition program and process; providing leadership and support for annual scholarship award program.
Fundraising and Relationship Development
  • Proactively manages a portfolio of 50-75 prospects and donors.
  • Cultivates, solicits, and stewards key donors with giving potential of a minimum of $500.00, via face-to-face solicitations, and sponsorship requests to corporations and foundations.
  • Achieves annual fundraising goals and performance metrics.
  • Plans and executes a comprehensive annual giving campaign that includes direct mail, and social media campaigns.
  • Assist Executive Director with special event planning & execution. Events may include, but are not limited to: Bubbles, Bands, & Brunch; Donor Scholar Reception; Donor Recognition events; business after hours; etc.
  • Serves as staff leadership for the Scholarship & Events Committee of the Foundation Board.
  • Develops and executes the Foundation’s annual stewardship plan.
  • Supports the moves management process through timely recordkeeping in donor software system, including donor call reports, use of proposal tab, and pertinent updates.
  • Oversee the communications, collateral, and publicity aimed at promoting the MGCC and the Foundation to internal and external audiences.
  • Initiates new giving opportunities to increase use of the Foundation’s website, online giving page, and social media.
  • Develop Alumni Association, both membership and bylaws, engagement opportunities and solicitations
 
Scholarship Management
  • Develop scholarship application forms, reports, and processes that assure access, accountability, and adherence to donor intent.
  • Execute the annual application and selection processes including program design, advertising, recruitment, eligibility review, and customer service with students and families.
  • Respond to general inquiries about all scholarship programs
  • Present Scholarship opportunities to High Schools within the College’s region.
  • Steward a portfolio of internal and external scholarship programs.
  • Communicate with students, parents, counselors, high schools, donors, and other involved parties.
  • Work directly with other departments to ensure the nomination of eligible scholars meets donor intent and established criteria
  • Process applications and manage awards efficiently and accurately in an online Award Management System.
  • Working with Financial Aid and Student Services to determine annual award amounts, disburse funds, and prepare reconciliation reports.
  • Staff the Foundation Board Scholarship Committee meetings.

Minimum Qualifications
KSA’s
  • Excellent communication skills (oral & written)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with bookkeeping & accounting
  • Understand the Moves Management donor process
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors
  • Experience planning and executing small, medium and large events
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, highly organized and self-directed
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with peers and those in authority
  • Bachelor’s Degree (communications, English, marketing, or related preferred) and 5 years of work experience in a Fundraising.
  • Marketing experience; experience with all traditional and emerging marketing channels
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge fundraising software (or comparable donor database)
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem solving and decision-making skills
