The Undergraduate Program Director has the opportunity to work closely with, mentor, and inspire undergraduate students as they grow in their coursework and experiences in the School of Business. This position leads the day-to-day operations of the undergraduate program in the School of Business, in collaboration with the Dean and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. This position works closely with faculty and campus partners to develop courses that blend foundational learning with innovative and inclusive pedagogy, blending core learning with a focus on the future. Innovations that offer experiential learning (e.g., certificate programs and content modules), interdisciplinary programs, high-impact practices (e.g., client based projects, a variety of internships, and other impactful engagement), DEI and sustainability leadership, and programs that support diverse learners are important to students and to employers. Building upon initial advising relationships (pre-declaration of the concentration), this position also works closely with campus partners to identify, engage, and support students who may have unique needs or challenges, personally connecting with students to help them persist and thrive at PLU via retention efforts and programs. The position also leads student mentoring, such as the innovative Guide x Side program, for first-in-the-family students. Reports to the Dean of the School of Business.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Support the Center for Student Success transition of students to the School of Business, and advising for students who have not yet declared their concentration. Serve as the relationship builder and mentor for undergraduate Business majors/minors.
  • Guide and mentor our veterans and ROTC students in their academic journey. Provide ongoing communication and collaboration, including planning and documents related to their School of Business programs.
  • Help envision present, revised and future skills that can be included in School of Business courses.
  • Support faculty assessment activities for business school accreditation.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to support faculty and their continued growth in their courses, curriculum and pedagogy (e.g., collaboration with the Office of Inclusive Excellence).
  • Support Faculty in their advising for declared concentrations, as well as with any questions about helping students assume ownership of their progress in their degree.
  • Explore potential collaboration, joint programs, and interdisciplinary degrees within the College of Professional Studies, as well as with other units across campus (College of Health Professions, College of Humanities, Interdisciplinary Studies and Social Sciences, and the College of Natural Sciences).
  • Engage with students about declarations for their major, minor, and concentration declaration. Process major and minor applications.
  • Connect with, collaborate with, and support students on academic probation to help build confidence and a path to success.
  • Collaborate with schools and faculty from which transfer students arrive, and coordinate transfer course evaluation for incoming students.
  • Coordinate undergraduate Clubs & Orgs with faculty advisers.
  • Lead undergraduate PLU School of Business Ambassadors.
  • Track and communicate with faculty about their course materials and communication via the bookstore.
  • Map and communicate any course exceptions and/or substitutions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A pleasant and collaborative professionalism including the ability to accommodate diverse working styles and perspectives.
  • Management style that emphasizes teamwork, communication, flexibility, trust, and patience.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to collect and interpret data related to business programs, accreditation, and student experiences.
