Job Summary
The Coordinator for the Hospitality & Tourism Management program is an administrative position for Sheridan College. This position will be responsible for administrative responsibilities and teaching courses including hospitality, management, leadership, marketing, service options and other related courses. Other duties include collaboration with peers in curriculum review and development, advising and mentoring students, assessment of student learning activities, and other administrative duties as assigned. The coordinator will use innovative methodologies and educational technology in a variety of formats with some online course delivery to facilitate student learning. The coordinator will play an active role in growing the department programs with a focus on developing partnerships and credit for prior learning opportunities for students.
The Hospitality & Tourism Management Program is intended to provide training and employment opportunities to students who wish to seek entry-level management and supervisory careers in restaurants, food service, motels, resorts, agritourism businesses, etc. within the industry related sectors. Students in the program can earn an AAS degree or a one-year certificate. There are four (4) industry-related certificate pathways to the AAS degree: Agritourism, Culinary Arts & Hospitality Foundations, Event Planning, and Hospitality & Tourism Leadership.
 
An energetic, self-driven, innovative individual with industry and teaching experience is the ideal candidate. The ideal candidate will be considered for work at Sheridan College and periodic remote work due to travel responsibilities.

This position is contingent on continued grant funding.

Education/Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, master’s preferred, in Hospitality or related field
Preferred: TIPS Trainer, Certified Restaurant Server, Certified Hospitality Educator, Certified Food and Beverage Executive or willingness to secure credentials
Valid driver’s license, must show proof of insurance, and have reliable personal transportation capable of out-of-district travel

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
A. Some night and weekend work required; occasional travel throughout the state required to collaborate with industry partners and peers, recruit and build enrollment.
B. Plan and teach classes within the hospitality-related programs according to approved curriculum standards.
C. Facilitate cooperative education and internship agreements with area businesses and supervise students working under these agreements.
D. Coordinate curriculum and support services with national and state educational institutes and networks in the food service and hospitality industry.
E. Actively promote, coordinate curriculum, and provide support services to Wyoming high schools for both concurrent and dual enrollment.
F. Assist with program advertising and marketing.
G. Develop partnerships and cooperative education opportunities with businesses within our service area and state.
H. Develop and implement a Credit for Prior Learning – Industry Education outline for the Hospitality/Tourism programs.
I. Facilitate credit for learning opportunities for students working within the industry and for businesses providing training.
J. Coordinate support courses with faculty in related areas of business, general education, and food science.
K. Serve as academic advisor to students and assist them with job placement and maintain current employment information.
L. Recommend and coordinate with part-time instructors to assist with adjunct instructional duties
M. Recommend departmental budgets to the division chair and work within approved budget guidelines.
N. Meet regularly with the program advisory committee.
O. Attend administrative, division, and faculty meetings and other events as required.
P. Keep regular office hours for student access.
Q. Assist with recruiting in cooperation with the Admissions Office.
R. Maintain current knowledge and skills in the field of food service and hospitality management as well as in teaching skills.
S. Demonstrate an ability to work with a diverse population representing a wide range of abilities and ages.
T. Address challenges to delivering educational opportunities remotely and in a rural community college setting with a demonstrated ability to work remotely, when required, using technology or alternative means of instruction.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
  • Coordinator while working at Sheridan College campus:

  • Classroom and office setting.

  • Maintain an on-campus presence outside of class for student office hours and administrative responsibilities as required during NWCCD business hours. Some evenings and weekends as scheduled.

  • Coordinator while in a remote working environment (fulfilling recruiting, industry partnership development, concurrent enrollment facilitation, credit for prior learning initiatives, etc.) must maintain:

  • Internet and telephone connectivity, and computer hardware capable of utilizing Microsoft 365 Office Suite software applications and learning management system software (Canvas)

  • A virtual presence outside of class for student office hours and administrative responsibilities as required during NWCCD business hours. Some evenings and weekends as scheduled.

Experience
  • Minimum of three years’ successful management experience within the hospitality industry
  • Experience in management, business, distributive education, or education beneficial
