Job Description

Martinez Fellowship Program Manager

Reports to: Director of NWE

Location: BCLS

Position Closes: Open until filled

Status: Full Time, Exempt

Every student can achieve academic success, yet the public education system was not designed to meet students of color where they are, instead they marginalized and underestimated their abilities. TAF partners with school districts, educators, and organizations to challenge the current public education system. We address the entire public education system, from top-to-bottom, providing STEM skills and equitable, anti-racist education environments where all students can succeed and by working with emerging and established education leaders of color to improve representation at every level. We:

  • Co-manage two public STEM schools where we provide industry-relevant, equitable curriculum and experiences
  • Partner with existing schools and coach staff and students to use our successful STEMbyTAF learning model
  • Empower early-career educators and establish school leaders of color through educational equity and liberation pedagogy

Position Overview

We support the sustainability of BIPOC leaders and educators of color by dismantling institutionalized and racist structures and practices that exist within and around us; replacing them with tools and behaviors that help sustain inclusive and equitable schools and learning spaces. The Network for EdWork is comprised of the Martinez Fellowship (a cohort-based program for early career BIPOC teachers), the Education EnCounter (a program for BIPOC leaders in education) and the Ally Engagement Program (a program for white leaders in education). The Martinez Fellowship Program Manager will oversee the program and works with Martinez Fellows, university partners, school districts and educational leaders to coordinate and facilitate Fellow support programs and professional development.

The mission of the MFP is to improve teacher diversity and the retention of teachers of color in Washington State and change the culture of education by prioritizing the professional growth and sustainability of BIPOC teachers and maximizing opportunities to increase the overall number of BIPOC teachers in Washington state. The program is open to 3rd year undergraduates and graduate level students in teaching programs. Fellows receive early career coaching, ongoing professional development rooted in racial identity awareness and growth, mentorship, and possible University-sponsored funding. Additional responsibilities include frequent fellow check-in and classroom visits, coordinating formal and informal gatherings, project management, maintaining relationships with teacher preparatory programs at colleges and universities, and maintaining program records.

The ideal candidate for this position is team oriented, can develop strong supportive relationships, has strong program management skills and experience to provide guidance and instruction to our growing cohort of pre-service BIPOC Martinez Fellows around liberation practices in education.
