Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The University of Maryland’s Division of Administration has an exciting and unique opportunity for a Human Resource Specialist. The role supports the division’s Business & Financial Services unit which provides consistent, high-quality budget, finance and human resources support to the Division of Administration. Under the guidance of the Director for Business & Financial Services, the Human Resource Specialist provides provides human resource support and administrative assistance to the Business & Financial Services unit. This includes providing day-to-day support for customer inquiries, research, reporting and problem resolution for personnel and payroll functions and overall office management.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelors degree in Human Resources Management or a related area

Experience:
One year related work experience.

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of human resources policies, practices, and procedures. 
  • Ability to interpret and apply human resources policies, practices, and procedures; to organize data and present clear, concise reports; to conduct interviews; to analyze jobs and job requirements for recruitment, selection, classification, and training; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to use automated systems, computers, and related software to facilitate assigned work; to maintain poise and courtesy under pressure; to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform payroll functions; to handle sensitive and confidential information with tact and discretion.
  • Knowledge of software programs including but not limited to Microsoft Suite and Google Suite.
