The STEM Success Coach has primary responsibility for developing and implementing direct services and resources to assist TRIO STEM and potential TRIO STEM participants students with academic concerns, course difficulties, academic self-efficacy, financial and time management, basic and advanced academic behaviors, program progression, and other duties as assigned. A successful candidate will be proficient in processing, organizing, and updating student participant files. This position requires a proven record of excellent interpersonal communication, customer service, knowledge of academic advising and college student retention, ability to synthesize and take action on complex information, and the skills to professionally represent the college to diverse constituencies.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

Grant Compliance and Reporting-
A successful candidate will track, update, record and report on the required grant metrics. Will need to maintain a strong understanding of the scope of work described in relevant grant narratives and project design. Will report to academic affairs partners on a quarterly and annual basis; maintain grant compliance at all times. Will assist in reporting to Department of Education on an annual basis.

Outreach-
Will provide individualized outreach to prospective TRIO STEM students. A successful candidate will initiate and maintain regular contact with students, helping learners find appropriate resources and directing eligible students to TRIO STEM to apply. Will liaison with staff to identify potential participants. Will liaison with key STEM faculty to provide referrals for mentorship, research, and courses.

Collaboration-
Successful candidates must be committed to collaboration with other student affairs and academic affairs departments to implement strategies and support learners in self-esteem and confidence-building activities. Will participate in committees and other opportunities that facilitate meaningful collaborations between staff, student affairs professionals, community partners, and academic affairs. Will work with other SLCC TRIO programs.

Advising and Holistic Student Service-
Will draw up agreed-upon action plans with learners, outlining the aims of mentoring; monitor student progress. A successful candidate will be committed to the development, organization, facilitation of relevant workshops (virtual and in-person). Will provide resources and facilitate referrals for student research projects.

Initiate and maintain regular, consistent contact with students; provide individualized outreach to students; monitor action plans with learners; monitor student progress.

Create, promote, organize, and lead virtual student activities, resource banks, and support networks.

Liaison with staff and faculty to provide meaningful referrals and resources to participants; collaborate with other TRIO programs, departments to implement strategies and support learners in self-esteem and confidence building activities; Serve on College committees, aimed at student access and success, student needs, and student resources.

Attend professional development, training, site visits, and conferences to remain up to date on SLCC policies, procedures, and resources, as well as industry best practices.’

Update student data, track grant metrics, report on student data to stakeholders, and report on student data to Department of Education.

Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s Degree.

Two (2) to four (4) years of direct, full time work experience in student services at a college or university or equivalent experience in another, similar setting.

Master’s Degree in education, social behavioral sciences or related field.
Student advising experience.
Successfully completed an online program as a student.
Direct experience with online synchronously technologies and tools (WebEx, Zoom, etc.), student retention systems (Starfish, StudentAccess etc.) and learning management systems (Canvas, etc.).

Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
Experience with or knowledge of TRIO grants or grants in general.
