Position Summary

The Department of Special Education seeks to hire temporary part-time faculty to teach in Special Education. The Department of Special Education is committed to tackling issues that are of significant educational importance to families and their sons and daughters with disabilities. The mission of the UNM Special Education Department supports the primary goal of increasing the number of fully credentialed, highly-qualified special education professionals who will provide services to children with disabilities throughout the state of New Mexico.

Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels, current course offering matrix, and demand driven by graduation requirements.  Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses.  Candidates who are selected for these positions will report to the Special Education Chair.

Qualified candidates from all underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply. These positions will remain open until filled.  

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Special Education or a closely related field by contract start date.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Postdoctoral scholarly work in an area relevant to the course.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching PreK-12.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching adult learners.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
