Over the past 25 years, the Space Exploration Sector at APL, has pushed the boundaries of what is possible; delivering game-changing impacts to sponsors like NASA and the Department of Defense. This includes historic, science space firsts like New Horizons reaching Pluto, Parker Solar Probe being the first to “touch” the sun, and the DART mission that redirected an asteroid for planetary defense. As a not-for-profit university affiliated research center, APL also delivered solutions to our nation’s national security challenges, as proven with the recent Deep Space Advanced Radar Concept (DARC) Tech Demo, and acts as a trusted partner with the US Space Force in space domain awareness and space-integrated warfare.

As a member of our team, you’ll:

  • Design and implement automation solutions for development, testing, and production environments.
  • Architect and build Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering team to improve automation of work-flows, infrastructure, testing, and deployment.
  • Implement industry best practices for system hardening and configuration management.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you:

  • Possess a B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Have at least 5 years of software engineering experience with languages such as Java, C/C++, Python, C#, .NET, and object-oriented concepts.
  • Are familiar with developing enterprise web applications using Angular and JavaScript with extensive experience working with HTML5 and CSS3. Experience using jQuery with client-side frameworks, preferably Angular (React, Backbone, Bootstrap, or similar modern JS frameworks accepted).
  • Have at least 5 years of experience in various testing techniques and the ability to use them in practice: smoke testing, system testing, regression testing, stress testing, performance testing.
  • Have a passion to stay on top of quality, testing trends, and tools.
  • Have the ability to develop scripts to automate deployment and testing.
  • Have proficiency in scripting languages including Bash and Python.
  • Have working experience in creating test documentation (test plans, reports, metrics).
  • Have experience with Solaris, Unix, Linux, and network computing.
  • Have a strong understanding of system administration in Linux environments.
  • Have a strong knowledge of configuration management tools.
  • Have strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and are an effective communicator
  • Have the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Are able to obtain a Top Secret Clearance. You will be subjected to a government security investigation, and you should meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information up to the Secret level. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. You’ll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you:

  • Possess a Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Have strong knowledge of Quality Assurance methodology and tools.
  • Are familiar with ground system concepts, space systems, acquisition, system architecture development.
  • Have experience with Dev Ops Engineering or Process Automation.
  • Have experience with cloud technologies such as Amazon Web Services, Azure, Google Cloud.
  • Possess relevant certifications in Cloud technology and DevOps, such as:  AWS Certified SysOps Admin, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Microsoft Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Azure DevOps Solutions, Linux Foundation Certified System Administration, Google Associate Cloud Engineer, Google Cloud DevOps Engineer.
  • Are well-versed in using professional software development tools such as integrated development environments (IDE), version control, issue trackers, debuggers and continuous integration tools.
