Over the past 25 years, the Space Exploration Sector at APL, has pushed the boundaries of what is possible; delivering game-changing impacts to sponsors like NASA and the Department of Defense. This includes historic, science space firsts like New Horizons reaching Pluto, Parker Solar Probe being the first to “touch” the sun, and the DART mission that redirected an asteroid for planetary defense. As a not-for-profit university affiliated research center, APL also delivered solutions to our nation’s national security challenges, as proven with the recent Deep Space Advanced Radar Concept (DARC) Tech Demo, and acts as a trusted partner with the US Space Force in space domain awareness and space-integrated warfare.

As a member of our team, you’ll:   

  • Deploy and orchestrate multiple software s into a cloud environment.
  • Advise on ways to improve applications by leveraging cloud services.
  • Participate in architectural discussions to ensure solutions are designed to meet our sponsors’ needs.
  • Define and document cloud solution architecture(s) including technical designs and diagrams.

 


Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you:

  • Possess a B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Have at least 3 years of experience in the field of cloud computing, including the design, configuration, provisioning, managing, and troubleshooting of distributed and ized environments.
  • Have at least 5 years of full stack software engineering experience, including software design methodology, requirements development, configuration management, trade studies, and product defect tracking.
  • Have proficiency in at least one high-level scripting language (e.g., Python, Bash)
  • Have experience with cloud technologies such as Amazon Web Services, Azure, Google Cloud.
  • Are familiar with Java, Python, .NET, C/C++, and object-oriented programming concepts.
  • Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and are an effective communicator
  • Have the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Are able to obtain a Top Secret Clearance. You will be subjected to a government security investigation, and you should meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information up to the Secret level. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. All staff members must provide proof of full vaccination or have an approved medical or religious accommodation by their start date.

You’ll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you:

  • Possess a Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Possess relevant certifications, such as: AWS Certified Systems Operations Administrator, AWS Certified Professional Cloud Architect, Microsoft Certified Azure Fundamentals, Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft Certified Solutions Architect, Google Associate Cloud Engineer, Google Professional Cloud Architect.
  • Are familiar with ground system concepts, space systems, acquisition, system architecture development.
  • Have experience with Dev Ops Engineering or Process Automation.
  • Have experience with Unix, Linux, and network computing.
  • Are well-versed in using professional software development tools such as integrated development environments (IDE), version control, issue trackers, debuggers and continuous integration tools.
