The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to serve as a member of the Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics team. The Postdoctoral Research Associate, under general supervision, is responsible for conducting lab experiments, analyzing and communicating data in the form of primary research articles, aiding in grant writing, supervising undergraduate students and performing routine lab duties as required. The successful applicant will bring an expert level of research experience to the position and understand the demands of supporting executives in a fast-paced environment. This person must be professional, enjoy working in a high-volume environment and be able to apply strong organizational skills while being flexible in their daily routine. What you need to know

Required Education:
Appropriate doctoral degree
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Preferred Education and Experience:
PhD in Neuroscience or related discipline
4 years of experience in performing bench research
Experience with astrocytes and mouse behavior
Experience with confocal microscopy
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of Parkinson’s disease, mouse neuroanatomy, neuronal function and astrocyte biology
Skills in stereotaxic mouse surgery, confocal microscopy, live imaging of brain slices, mouse behavior, manuscript preparation and ability to communicate research results clearly
Responsibilities:
Experimental research
Live imaging of mouse brain slices with confocal microscopy
Mouse behavior experiments related to Parkinson’s-related motor and non-motor behaviors
Mouse brain sectioning, immunostaining and imaging using confocal microscopy and slide scanner imaging
Stereotaxic injections of adeno-associated viral vectors into the mouse brain
Data analysis
Sort and quantify data obtained using live slice imaging
Apply complex statistical analysis methods to data acquired from electrophysiology, imaging and mouse behavioral experiments
Interpret differences in data, and design follow-up experiments
Communication of scientific results at lab meetings and scientific conferences
Manuscript and grant proposal writing
Writing the first draft and editing primary research articles for publication
Aiding in writing research grant proposals to the NIH and NSF
