Position Introduction

McHenry County College seeks an Executive Director of Library and Learning Resources to build and lead a culture which embraces the Library and Sage Learning Center as a central campus hub for academic learning, community building, and student success. The Executive Director should be familiar with the challenges and barriers that community college students face in college and develop resources and services to help students in their path to post-secondary education completion.

Position Summary

Provide direction and overall leadership for the Library and Sage Learning Center with the goal of ensuring that its services, resources, and facilities remain student centered and responsive to the needs of the campus community and the students it serves. The Director should be familiar with the challenges and barriers that community college students face in college and develop resources and services to help students overcome the obstacles in their path to post-secondary education completion.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

· Directs and participates in the overall operations of the Library and Sage Learning Center and manages the progress of all projects and initiatives
· Supervise, evaluate, and support faculty, staff, and student employees in accordance with union contracts and College policies. This involves hiring, training, motivating, and managing to guarantee the team performs at the highest level possible
· Build and lead a culture which embraces the Library and the Sage Learning Center as central campus hubs for academic learning, community building, and student success
· Demonstrate commitment to service excellence, diversity, innovation, integrity, student success, quality support services, and access
· Define the strategic direction for the future development of Library and the Sage Learning Center
· Coordinate outreach and programming efforts to help students develop research, critical analysis, and information literacy skills
· Oversee the design, delivery, and continuous process improvement of academic support programs for on-campus, online, and remote learning options
· Collaborates and communicates with faculty and appropriate administrators in support of library and academic support services
· Partner with faculty and academic administration to facilitate and support faculty teaching activities and use of open educational resources and other instructional materials
· Establish and advocate for the needs of the Library and Sage Learning Center to support their mission and the mission of the College
· Support a comprehensive tutoring and tutor training program
· Develop and manage the fiscal responsibilities for Library and Sage Learning Center operations, including budget preparation and administration, grant request preparation and administration, purchase orders, approval of expenditures, and report reconciliation
· Analyze data and assess Library and Sage Learning Center services and activities to implement changes for continued improvement
· Review, develop, implement, and evaluate guidelines and procedures in collaboration with personnel
· Research professional best-practices and trends in learning assistance and determine appropriateness for implementation, adoption, and recommendations for changes in practices and procedures Provide circulation and reference assistance to students, employees, and community as needed
· Lead Library and Sage Learning Center promotion and marketing efforts
· Design effective workflows that meet immediate and long-term goals
· Support and facilitate professional development opportunities for Library and Sage Learning Center personnel
· Provide leadership in the exploration and adoption of innovations in Library and Sage Learning Center services and technologies to support student engagement and success
· Represent the Library and Sage learning Center internally and externally on committees and within consortia and organizations
· Prepare and complete reports required by the College, state, and federal authorities
· Serve as the MCC Copyright Officer
· Work collaboratively with others (e.g., colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish Library and Learning Resources functions and responsibilities
· Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor

Required Education

Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution

Other Required Qualifications

· Master’s degree in Library/Information Services or an equivalent from a regionally accredited institution
· Three-Five years of academic library experience
· Demonstrated history of progressively more responsible leadership
· Extensive knowledge and experience with contemporary library and academic support practices, including emerging technologies and trends
· Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills necessary to collaborate and work effectively with faculty, staff, and students

Desired Qualifications

· Three years of supervisory experience in academic support
· Bilingual communication skills
· Community college experience
· Ability to interact effectively with a diverse staff and student population

Skills and Specifications

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
· Experience with ILS migration, project management, and library renovation projects
· Understanding of and demonstrated experience with data-driven decision making for developing and refining processes and services
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, staff, students, and the community
· Ability to make verbal and written presentations
· Understanding of the higher education process and ability to work with other areas of the College
· Ability to deal both with the strategic direction big picture and with detailed day-to-day operations
· Ability to work in a dynamic environment, sensitivity to change, and responsiveness to evolving goals, priorities, and needs
· Ability to work independently yet with a strong team orientation to develop productive working relationships at all levels of the organization
· Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
