Job Description

The mission of the Robinson Community Learning Center (RCLC) is to welcome community and Notre Dame partners that strengthen the Northeast Neighborhood of South Bend through relationship building and educational opportunities. By promoting innovation and excellence, the Center builds individual capacity and enhances existing systems throughout South Bend. The work of the RCLC addresses five goals to accomplish this mission: Hospitality, Education, Partnership, Civic Engagement, and Sustainability.

AmeriCorps members will serve in one of following Robinson Center program areas:


- Youth Development
- Performing Arts/Shakespeare
- Take Ten Violence Prevention/Conflict Resolution
- Talk With Your Baby
- Preschool
-ND Center for Civic Innovation Educational Programs

RCLC programs are offered at the RCLC, as well as at partner outreach sites including the ND Center for Civic Innovation. AmeriCorps members will be charged with directly serving program participants, building program capacity, and expanding the outreach of their assigned program area.

Specific responsibilities include:

- Assist with or lead program activities. These may include: teaching classes, individual tutoring, mentoring, creating enrichment activities or leading field trips.
- Recruit volunteers and coordinate volunteer activities and training.
- Develop and implement curricula.
- Explore opportunities to engage new community or ND partners in the RCLC mission.
- Assist with coordinating outreach efforts.
- Assist in conducting program evaluation, including collecting and entering data and creating written reports.
- Maintain records and paperwork required by RCLC programs.
- Oversee and coordinate special projects as requested.
- Participate in AmeriCorps training throughout the year

AmeriCorps is a national service organization aimed at helping communities meet needs in areas including education by building the capacity of community organizations. AmeriCorps is providing funding for the RCLC to have multiple minimum-time AmeriCorps members during 2022-2023. These are service positions, rather than traditional “jobs”. Minimum-time AmeriCorps members are expected to complete a full year of service (300 hours). On completion of the term of service, members will receive an education award, which can be used for future education or student loans. Members receive a modest “Living Allowance Stipend” each month of service.

Minimum Time AmeriCorps members will be compensated as follows:

Monthly Living Allowance Stipend: $315
Education Award: $1374 (on completion of 300 service hours)

Minimum Qualifications

- High school diploma required, some college or Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- US Citizen or lawful permanent resident alien.
- Reliable transportation required for some positions

Additional Qualifications include:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Interest in education, working with at-risk youth and community development.
- Public speaking and the ability to teach/train others.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and some on-line systems.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work in a variety of settings.
- Sensitivity, compassion and listening skills required to work with a diverse audience including: RCLC staff, volunteers, fellow AmeriCorps members, Notre Dame and community partners, RCLC participants (ranging in age from early childhood through senior citizens), neighborhood residents and families of youth participants.
