Full Job Description

Primary Function:
The Director of Marketing & Communications has responsibility for the oversight and administration of marketing and communications for the organization, including marketing strategy, campaign development, production, and evaluation. The Director partners and/or collaborates with leadership team members, and department leaders. The Director reports to the CEO.
Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The Director establishes the Marketing & Communications team and develop departmental work processes and best practices.
  • Oversees all branding initiatives, including messaging and art/creative direction and maintains brand consistency.
  • Drives and manages all organizational communications campaign planning, including print, web, social, email, and multi-media.
  • Writes long- and short-form copy and coordinate content (e.g., information, stories, profiles, interviews, etc.); review and approve all departmental content; and oversee communications calendar.
  • Provides art direction and executes and/or manages staff or creative vendors for all print and digital design.
  • Manages profiles of target audiences, such as internal, Board, clinical, community partners, donors, media, etc.
  • Supervises promotion of clinical services and programs to increase patient, enrollment, and/or participation volumes.
  • Leadership communications: collaborates closely with the Upham’s CEO as a strategic partner, providing support for organizational initiatives, external relationships, talking points/scripts, etc.
  • Supports Community Relations’ public event planning with an eye towards organizational marketing and outreach.
  • Supports organizational annual fundraising and stewardship, primarily through email marketing.
  • Approves all creative vendors, including portfolio reviews, creative concepts, production, and deliverables.
  • Oversees departmental fiscal planning, budget, expenses, and cost evaluations.
  • Handles other duties as assigned.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • 8-10 years professional experience, preferably in the non-profit sector.
  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, design, public relations, or related field, with a focus on non-profit, health care, education, community relations, or public relations.
  • Pro-active, progressive management style; strategic thinking, flexible collaboration, and strong decision-making skills.
  • Deep commitment to nonprofit and community engagement work as well as issues of DEIJ (diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice) in the workplace.
  • Print and digital marketing, writing, design, [production, and/or project management platform experience, such as HubSpot, HootSuite, Meta Business Suite, Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and/or WordPress.

Supervisory Responsibility:
Supervision of Marketing and Communication staff
Access Level to PHI: Level 1 [Not authorized access to PHI. UCHC job title and corresponding responsibilities do not require access to PHI (although incidental exposure may occur)].
