Position Summary
This semester-long position ensures equal access to educational opportunities for a student with a mobility disability. Work includes attending the student’s class sessions to take notes, transcribe data and results as directed by the student, and assist with the hands-on tasks in the biology class/lab as directed by the student. Work may also include similar academic assistance outside of class at times agreed upon between the Accessibility Aide and the student. The Accessibility Aide will not contribute to the content of the course or be responsible for teaching the material to the student. The Accessibility Aide must follow all class/lab safety procedures under the direction and supervision of the course instructor. The Accessibility Aide is not expected to assist with any personal care needs of the student. The length of this position is predicated on the student’s enrollment in the course.

Director of Access and Disability Services (ADS)Essential Functions and Responsibilities
1. Attend all class sessions at the times listed above under Anticipated Schedule. Accessibility Aides cannot be enrolled in the same course of the student they are assisting that semester.
2. The services are individually designed and based on the specific needs of each student. Duties may include, for example:
a. Taking notes in class;
b. Writing down class information as dictated by the student;
c. Assisting with completing in-class assignments on paper and on the computer as directed by the student;
d. Completing lab activities that require physical movements (such as lifting or pouring materials; adjusting or moving lab equipment; or performing other lab tasks) as directed by the student.
3. Maintain confidentiality of the student’s personal information and adhere to applicable privacy laws and ethical standards.
4. Demonstrate sensitivity, understanding, and respect of diverse populations within the workplace.
