The Financial Aid Advisor is responsible for supporting the goals of the Financial Aid Department as directed by the Director of Financial Aid. Main priority is to apply rules and regulations in determining financial aid eligibility for assigned caseloads of students.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree (60 college credit hours) with one or more years of work experience in an educational setting
Demonstrated experience applying policy and interpreting regulations
Computer literacy to include proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and data entry
Ability to multi-task
Ability to manage a large volume workflow with minimal supervision
Must be detail-oriented and highly self-motivated
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent public relations skills
Strong problem analysis and problem resolution skills

Essential Functions
Responsible for processing verification, unusual enrollment, return of Title IV, TASFA, summer aid, spring financial aid transcripts as needed based on assigned caseload of students
Review student information to determine whether student qualifies to apply for special circumstance, dependency override, or divorce and separation request
Reach out to students on assigned caseload as needed to provide assistance with verification and to complete financial aid awarding process
Use problem-solving and professional judgment to determine immigration status and resolve missing information issues
Responsible for timely and accurate processing of electronic corrections to the US Department of Education
Apply knowledge of student loan limits and aggregate limits
Responsible for accurate calculations of student budgets and unmet need
Review all necessary data elements that are required for awarding including, but not limited to major, satisfactory academic progress, educational intent, transcript evaluation, the National Student Loan Data system monitoring, high school graduation verification, etc.
Resolution of any conflicting data issues with Selective Service System, Immigration and Naturalization, Social Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security, etc
Responsible for awarding TEOG State Grant
Award student tuition waivers and state exemptions as needed
Responsible for processing all distance learning book vouchers based on assigned caseload
Use electronic imaging as a major source of student records
Assist with front counter as needed
Able to work under pressure and deal with upset students and family members
Attendance at Midland College or community events is required as needed
Other duties as assigned
