Full Job Description

($5,000 Sign-On Bonus after 6 months of employment)

Full-time position for a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist to provide diagnostic and treatment services for medically complex, post-acute inpatients, ages infancy through adolescence. Expertise with acquired brain injury and feeding/swallowing required, including the provision of pediatric modified barium swallow studies. CCC-SLP and MA license required.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Administers tests and applies evaluation techniques to determine functional status and identify therapy needs.

· Analyzes evaluation results and designs a therapy treatment plan to meet needs of patient. Instructs patient, family, teachers and support personnel, as appropriate, for carryover of therapy activities. Seeks resources as needed.

· Evaluates and reports patient progress to treatment team and family. Maintains communication with other members of treatment team to ensure coordinated effort.

· Documents and reports pertinent patient information in an accurate and timely manner.

· Maintains expected productivity standards.

· Provides continuity of coverage in emergency situations. Covers other service areas as directed by supervisor.

· Provides clinical supervision to graduate students, clinical fellows, and other staff members as requested by the supervisor or director. Acts as a resource in area of expertise.

· Transports patients and their equipment weighing up to 200 pounds, or assists in these activities, using safe body mechanics.

· Demonstrates proficiency in treatment techniques for all age groups between 0 and 21 years.

· Successfully completes Hospital and department specific orientation and ongoing mandatory education requirements.

· Other essential duties may be assigned as necessary to the operations of the department.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A Master's Degree from an accredited program in speech-language pathology is required. A minimum of nine months of professional experience is required. Knowledge of basic treatments and procedures in patient care is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

· Demonstrates knowledge of normal and abnormal development for patient care and safety for infant, toddler, latency, adolescents, and young adults.

· Demonstrates knowledge of normal and abnormal processes of communication and oral motor function.

· Demonstrates the ability to organize a caseload and is prepared for sessions.

· Maintains confidentiality of patient and caregiver information.

· Demonstrates professional and courteous behavior.

· Engages in ethical treatment as delineated by ASHA.

· Provides compassionate care to patients and families.

· Communicates effectively with other team members.

· Participates in department quality assurance activities.

· Maintains a safe and orderly work environment.

· Accepts specific non-patient care related duties within the department.

· Attends and participates in hospital in-services, workshops and professional conferences in order to maintain current knowledge in the field.

· Attends and participates in staff meetings.

CERTIFICATION, REGISTRATION, OR LICENSURE REQUIRED BY THE JOB

· Current Certification of Clinical Competence granted by ASHA.

· Current licensure as a speech-language pathologist granted by the State of Massachusetts.

· Current Massachusetts Teacher Certification or application in process as applicable to program.

· Current CPR certification must be maintained during employment.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $72,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
