Position Description:

Lab of nutrient sensing in metabolic diseases aims to understand how lipid metabolite ceramides: impair nutrient sensing in adipose tissue and contribute to development of metabolic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases etc. (Chaurasia et 2016, Cell Metabolism and Chaurasia et 2019, Science). The overreaching goal of one of the projects in the lab is to understand how adipocytes interact with immune cells to maintain adipocyte health. Using genetic and pharmacological tools to modulate ceramide accumulation immune regulatory cells in vivo combined with unbiased approaches we seek to understand how ceramide dependent nutrient sensing in immune-regulatory T-cells maintain adipocyte health. Therefore, we are currently seeking a postdoctoral candidate with strong background in immunology and/or metabolic diseases. We anticipate the start date to be 07/01/2020 or later. Successful applicants will be generously offered with NIH guideline-based salary and benefits and will be part of diabetes research community at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics and affiliated Fraternal order of diabetes research institute.
