*Advisors work one (1) evening per week until 6pm and occasional evening hours for events. 
 
*Century currently operates in a hybrid work environment. The hiring manager will provide guidance to the type of work environment at/following the interview process.

Job Description
Position Purpose & Responsibilities
This position serves as a member of a professional team providing comprehensive advising services for Century College students who are clarifying their academic interests, preparing for admission to majors, pursuing declared majors, and changing their academic goals.  The academic advisor provides guidance and assistance with course registration, academic planning, and academic questions/concerns as well as resources and referrals to promote academic success for Century College students.  This position also;

  • Develops expertise in assigned Century College Academic Pathway programs and manages a caseload of assigned advisees pursuing those programs. 
  • Provides proactive advising and case management to support retention of students identified as needing support through early alert process and/or predictive analytics.
  • Participates in college-wide enrollment, retention, and student success initiatives such as new student orientation, readmission, and suspension appeals. 
  • Works effectively with Student Affairs offices and academic departments to meet the goals and objectives on the office, division, and institution. 
  • Communicates with Century College faculty and staff, participates in program and event development and serves on college-wide committees. 
  • Assists with program evaluation and completes other assignments as directed. 
Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: (expected to have to enter job)
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of college student development and various learning styles.
  • Ability to learn extensive college program, policy, and procedure information and explain to others.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of students, staff and faculty.
  • Experience working collaboratively as part of a team.  
  • Possess presentation skills to effectively promote and represent the college.
  • Personal computing/technology skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Office software; experience with and comfort utilizing multiple types of technology to provide advising services.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:(desired but not expected to have to enter job)
  • Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education or related field.
  • Previous experience in academic advising.
  • Previous experience in a community college setting.
  • Previous experience with Minnesota State advising-related software such as ISRS, uAchieve and Starfish.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success and retention.
