Job Title: Advising Specialist

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Department: Engineering & Management Program - Reh School of Business

Title of Manager/Supervisor: Director, Engineering & Management Program

Position Summary: Support students’ academic development. Establish and maintain accurate student records to ensure efficient progress toward degree completion. Support recruitment and retention efforts of the University. Develop and implement advising processes for continuous improvement. Provide administrative support to the Director of the E&M Program and Associate Dean of Operations & Student Success as needed.

General Purpose: Advise, empower, and support students as they develop, plan and implement their educational goals. Assist in running the E&M program and Reh School of Business in achieving their goals.

Remote Workdays- This is a full time on Campus position with zero remote workdays.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the planning and execution of the advising and course selection process to ensure each student is on track to meeting degree requirements.
  • Evaluate and process departmental and university paperwork such as add/drop, change of major, readmission. Update student academic files to ensure accuracy and proper matriculation.
  • Meet with at-risk students as necessary to monitor their progress, create an academic plan, and implement appropriate strategies to improve their academic situation.
  • Refer students to university support services such as the Student Success Center, the Counseling Center, the Writing Center, the Career Center, and Student Achievement Services as necessary.
  • Work closely with the Career Center to enhance student job search, employer relations, Study Abroad Partner School relations, and student use of Career Center resources.
  • Assist students in planning for an international educational experience.
  • Interview and assist prospective internal and external transfer students to evaluate academic records and progress toward program requirements.
  • Participate in relationship management with prospective students and their families, alumni, corporate recruiters, and others.
  • Create and deliver program correspondence.
  • Present or provide necessary support at various university events such as Visit Day, Open House, Orientation, Family Weekend, Graduation ceremonies, and Recognition Day.
  • Conduct audits of student records and collect other pertinent information to support accreditation efforts. Prepare summaries for inclusion in external validation reports.
  • Examine academic trends and implement appropriate programming/processes to continuously improve services.
  • Oversee senior graduation and audit process.
  • Assume increased responsibilities for the day to day operations of the office as necessary.
  • Assist in the advising functions of Alpha Pi Mu (the E&M Honorary Society), Student Association for Engineering Management (SAEM) and the E&M Student Advisory Committee.
  • Perform other duties incidental to the work described herein.

Education:
Minimal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in related field

Experience:
Minimal Experience:

  • Three years of experience with progressive responsibility in a business or educational setting that demands independent judgment.
