Description
Title: Postdoctoral Associate - Fort Collins, Colorado Location: Fort Collins, Colorado Full job description: https://jobs.colostate.edu/postings/118680 Full Consideration Application Date: 01/31/2023 Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000 Position Summary: As an academic department at Colorado State University we conduct research in the area of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources (HDNR) and prepare students for careers in conservation leadership and tourism. This area of study focuses on understanding and attending to the needs and values of humans, human society, and culture as they relate to the natural environment. The mission of the Department of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources is to contribute to the conservation, stewardship and enjoyment of natural and cultural resources and the management of those resources in a way that produces both land health and sustainable human benefits. As a part of Colorado State University, HDNR is an equal opportunity/equal access/affirmative action employer fully committed to achieving a diverse workforce and complies with all Federal and Colorado State laws, regulations, and executive orders regarding non-discrimination and affirmative action. A Postdoctoral Scholar position is available with an NSF-funded project investigating wildfire risk governance networks in the American West. We seek a social-ecological systems scientist or quantitative social scientist to lead project management, data analysis, outreach, and scientific writing. The position will support research on how local-level wildfire protection planning processes interact with and shape systems-level risk governance and, consequently, the implementation of risk mitigation measures at both local and regional scales. This research aims to improve understanding of (i) how risk governance networks affect policy implementation and adaptation in collaborative planning processes and in the scope of decisions they produce, (ii) how social processes (such as learning, cooperation, and competition) affect the implementation of those decisions, and (iii) how interdependent decision-making processes affect the efficiency of risk mitigation at regional scales. Methods applied to answer these questions will include fieldwork among wildfire stakeholders (e.g., online and in-person interviews and surveys in Colorado), text analysis of planning and policy documents, network analysis, and computational modeling. In-person is preferred, but there’s potential for remote work. Beginning Monday, August 16, 2021, Colorado State University has mandated vaccinations against COVID-19. Faculty and staff are required to submit their vaccine status or declare an exemption. More information about the vaccination mandate can be found on the CSU COVID-19 Information & Resources site here, https://covid.colostate.edu/pandemic-preparedness-team-broad-guidance-for-all-summer-and-fall-2021-activities/ Employee Benefits: Colorado State University (CSU) is committed to providing employees with a strong and competitive benefits package that supports you, your health, and your family.
