Agriculture in today’s world is a business, whether it be processing and marketing agricultural products, farming, or supplying agricultural inputs. Consumers face a variety of choices that are impacted by policies and regulations, by micro and macro conditions affecting them, and by their individual circumstances and welfare. The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE) addresses important issues regarding the management of agricultural and related businesses, the functioning of agricultural markets, the protection and use of resources, the performance of government policies affecting agricultural and related industries, and the impacts of decisions made by consumers with respect to the purchase of food and fiber products.
ARE offers undergraduate major and minor programs in agricultural business management and a concentration in biological sciences business management within the agricultural business management program. At the graduate level, the department offers a Master of Science degree in agricultural economics, and PhD degree in economics. These instructional programs are enriched by faculty members with extension and research activities which contribute to the relevance and thoroughness of the teaching program.

The Departments of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE) in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and Economics in the Poole College of Management at North Carolina State University invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of International Economics. The position will be split 50% Academic Programs and 50% Research. The Assistant Professor of International Economics will hold appointments in both departments. This position is part of an ongoing cross-college collaboration within North Carolina State University, aimed at expanding the area of international economics.
Responsibilities include establishing and maintaining a successful research agenda that produces publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals; being an effective teacher at the graduate and undergraduate levels; supervising PhD students; and providing service to the department, college and university. Expectations are for the individual holding the position to teach two courses annually, at either the graduate or undergraduate level, depending on departmental needs. Senior assistant professors are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Education and Experience
- Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in economics, agricultural economics, or a related field.
Other Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching is imperative, and candidates should address their ability to actively engage students based on pedagogical best-practices.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing, and the skill to be an effective teacher in the classroom or other public forums in order to convey understanding.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous teaching experience at undergraduate and graduate level.
- Previous teaching experience in international economics.
