Position description

The Lab for Cellular Immunotherapy and Immunoengineering (LCII) led by Dr. Gloria Kim (https://www.mayo.edu/research/faculty/kim-gloria-b-ph-d/bio-20534840 ) is in the Department of Physiology and Biomedical Engineering and the Department of Immunology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science at Mayo Clinic. Our lab focuses on engineering immune cells and biomaterials to develop next-generation treatment options for patients with cancers and immune-related diseases. We invite you to join our mission to leverage our expertise in synthetic biology, T-cell engineering, immunology, biomedical engineering, and material science to understand how immune cells work in health and disease while advancing biomedical technologies that can boost the ability of the immune system to detect, prevent, and treat human disease. We believe our biomedical research has great potential to be translated into the clinic and will have a direct impact on the well-being of patients. Mayo Clinic is a great place to conduct such bioengineering research and interact closely with clinicians to translate technologies.

Ideal candidate: Ph.D. in Immunology, microbiology, genetics, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, or related technical disciplines and with a track record of success in publications, intramural/extramural funding, and collaborations with clinicians; excellent organizational, problem-solving, interpersonal, and record-keeping skills; ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a laboratory setting; strong leadership and management skills; proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point, Illustrator, and Photoshop; strong technical/scientific writing; excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work as part of a diverse team of graduate students, postdocs, and research technologists and promote collaboration/cooperation among teams; and attention to detail; proficiency in cell culture (especially human T cells), flow cytometry, cellular characterization, general molecular biology techniques including PCR, cloning, gel electrophoresis, western blotting. Applicants with additional experience in animal experiments, nanoparticles, polymer chemistry, and/or therapeutic development are strongly considered.

A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic.

  • A personal statement of scientific interests and goals
  • Current CV with publications and contact information of three references
  • Proof of doctoral degree (copy of diploma or final transcript with English translation, if applicable) or a letter from your university’s Registrar office indicating you have fulfilled all doctoral program requirements and are eligible to graduate.

Qualifications

·     Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in biomedical engineering, immunology, chemistry, biology, chemical engineering, or related technique discipline.

·     Research Fellow is appropriate for individuals who have completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship, at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere.
