Postdoctoral Position Available in Blood Cancer Institute

A postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Marina Konopleva’s laboratory to study apoptotic machinery and metabolic vulnerabilities in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells including leukemic stem cells.The laboratory is positioned in a newly established Blood Cancer Institute within Montefiore Einstein Cancer Center (MECC), the Bronx, NY. The primary research focus of our group involves translational and mechanistic studies of novel targeted therapies in models of hematological malignancies. We have a strong expertise in conducting pre-clinical projects and translating laboratory discoveries into clinical trials, with the research funded by NIH (R01s and SPORE) grants and pharmaceutical industry. The position offers high-impact publication opportunities, attendance to international conferences, competitive salary, and excellent career development opportunities, including exposure to multi-omics platforms like single-cell DNA plus protein sequencing, CITE-seq, leukemia mouse models, ample opportunities to work with specimens form clinical studies and collaborate with basic and translational research scientists and clinicians at MECC.

Applicants must have a MD or PhD with strong background in hematology/leukemia/stem cell biology and/or cancer research. High proficiency in molecular and cancer cell biology techniques, gene editing (shRNA/CRISPR) and multiparametric flow cytometry is required. Previous hands-on experience in establishing leukemia/tumor patient-derived xenograft (PDX) mouse models and proficiency in designing/execution of pre-clinical in vivo drug screening studies in mice (i.p., i.v., and oral gavage drug administration, organ harvest and processing) is warranted. Expertise in genomic/transcriptomic and single cell analyses is highly desired.

The selected candidate should be an excellent team player with superb presentation and writing skills and proven track record of first-author publications, international and national conference presentations. A minimum commitment of 3 years is strongly preferred. Willingness to apply for NIH/NCI Individual Postdoctoral Fellowships (F32), as well as high motivation to work in fast-paced team environment and devoted contribution to help other members of the lab as a mentor and collaborator, is required.

The Einstein base minimum salary for postdoctoral positions is $56,485. Salary can be adjusted based on the applicant’s qualifications and experience.
