Position Summary

 

The position of Fleet/Equipment Manager requires the following essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations: communicate orally; communicate in writing; read and interpret; exhibit emotional control and stability; operate a motor vehicle; ability to lift and move materials weighing up to fifty pounds; sit for extended periods of time; stand for extended periods of time; capable of mobility; bend; kneel; reach; ascend and descend steps; utilize telephone system and technology skills. Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) Board of Trustees and the College.

Salary Schedule: Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule E3 05($32,966-$48,728) based on education and experience

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Operate the College bus/vehicles in a safe and effective manner to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life.
  • Pick up and deliver employees, students, and guests as per a schedule.
  • Operate the bus in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant Department of Transportation, ACCS and LSCC policies, and procedures.
  • Perform safety and maintenance checks.
  • Assist college personnel with travel itineraries and vehicle use policies.
  • Clean the bus as scheduled and/or required.
  • Ensure all fleet vehicles are safely and securely stored.
  • Advise appropriate personnel of any requirements for maintenance or repairs.
  • Maintain all trip logs, gas receipts, and service receipts to support a regular service schedule for all fleet vehicles.
  • Interact with passengers and maintain order on the bus.
  • Maintain professional conduct in dealing with students, staff, administration, faculty, and the college community.
  • Maintain Class B/C license with a passenger, double/triple, and tank endorsements. Endorsements must be obtained before third-party testing school.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Assist with campus equipment inventory tagging processes on annual equipment inventory.
  • Assume all other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities or Assistant Director of Facilities

Qualifications

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, STANDARDS, AND TRAINING:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Two (2) years of full-time related work experience required
  • Current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL B/C with P (passenger) and S endorsement , without the K) is required. Must be insurable by the college’s insurance carrier.
  • Experience in operating and maintaining vehicles is preferred

REQUIRED LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, OR SPECIAL CREDENTIALS:

  • Valid Alabama Commercial Driver License (CDL) B/C with P endorsement without the K and good driving record

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstration of basic literacy skills
  • Must pass a background screening
  • Must meet physical, hearing and vision requirements with or without assistive devices
  • Good customer-service skills, courteous and helpful to passengers and staff
  • Ability to travel and work a flexible schedule to include day, evenings, nights, weekends and some holidays.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS – STRENGTH RATING

Medium Work – Exerting in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work. Hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity. Driving a bus requires the controlled use of multiple limbs on the basis of what a person observes. Have normal use of arms and legs.

Hearing ability. Must have good hearing. The ability to hear a forced whisper in one ear at five feet (with or without the use of a hearing aid).

Patience. Because of possible traffic congestion and sometimes unruly passengers, bus drivers are put in stressful situations and must be able to continue to calmly operate their bus.

Physical health. Must be in good physical health without a medical condition that interferes with operation of a bus (such as epilepsy).

Visual ability. Must be able to pass vision tests and distinguish traffic light colors.
