Job Description

This job position is being announced simultaneously with the position of Lecturer, Fashion and Retail (Job #19186). Vacancy will be filled with either one (1) Assistant Professor or one (1) Lecturer. More information is provided below in the Application Instructions section.

The Department of Business is seeking a team member who is passionate and committed to promoting the development of an equitable and inclusive environment. This is a full-time tenure track position with a 9-month appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor and can include a leadership role as program director. The anticipated start date is August 2023.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum / Required:

  • Earned Ph.D. degree or ABD status (Ph.D. degree required before tenure) in fashion, retail, or related field
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to teach university-level courses in fashion, product development, retailing, marketing, or related field
  • Commitment to teaching excellence and mentorship of undergraduates
  • Interest in advancing student learning in fashion and retail
  • Demonstrated success working with diverse stakeholders

Highly Desired:

  • Fashion, retail, or marketing related industry work experiences (e.g., product development/management, buying, merchandising, marketing)
  • Evidence of a cohesive program of research as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and/or conference proceedings
  • Proficiency in product development/management and/or merchandising software programs in fashion and retail areas
  • Demonstrated potential and interest in leadership opportunities
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing a work environment that embraces equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Demonstrated intercultural competence and its impact on the student experience

RESPONSIBILITIES

Teach undergraduate courses in product develoment, buying, merchandising, marketing, and other Business Department courses, as needed. This position may require alternative delivery methods and/or non-traditional teaching times.

  • Provide student academic advisement and conduct assessment of student learning. This includes contributing to academic program assessments and continuous improvement processes, in collaboration with faculty and staff.
  • Develop a productive research program with potential for refereed scholarship (peer-reviewed publications/conferences); conduct original research in areas of fashion and retail
  • Participate in program events and departmental meetings; demonstrate a commitment to teamwork
  • Perform appropriate university, community, and professional services

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

UW-Stout’s Business Department is one of 8 departments within the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Management and delivers courses that serve 20 undergraduate majors, including bachelor's degrees in Business Administration, Fashion and Retail, and Supply Chain Management. The Department of Business currently has 12 full-time faculty members and typically offers 50 different courses with over 2,500 students per semester enrolled in department course offerings.
