The Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA) is "The Source & Resource for Construction Financial Excellence" and the only nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the needs of today's construction financial professionals.
 

Established in 1981, CFMA's General Members represent all types of contractors—including general contractors, architects, engineers, principals, and material and equipment suppliers. Associate Members include professionals in the accounting, insurance, surety, software, legal, and banking industries, as well as any other specialists who serve in the construction industry.
 

The mission of CFMA is to build impactful construction financial professionals and create communities for networking and collaboration that advance the construction ecosystem. To accomplish this work, CFMA has curated a host of cutting-edge products and programs to provide members access to the latest in educational resources and industry trends. These range from live webinars and conferences to self-paced on-demand courses offered both virtually and live.
CFMA currently has more than 9,000 members and 99 chapters throughout the U.S. and Canada that offer education and networking opportunities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The President & CEO will serve as a passionate and inspirational spokesperson for the industry by amplifying CFMA’s unparalleled educational platforms, networking and thought leadership opportunities. In partnership with the Officers/Executive Committee, the President & CEO will advance the organization’s innovative strategic vision, build upon the CFMA’s significant assets, and ensure that it remains agile and nimble to provide continued value and relevancy to its members. The President & CEO will champion Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion among the membership, CFMA communities, and the staff, ensuring that every aspect of the organization’s work embraces these values.
 

The President & CEO will oversee all aspects of the organization, including (but not limited to) board relations, strategic planning and execution, staff leadership, membership relations and growth, and revenue diversification. CFMA has a $8M annual budget with a staff of 32 professionals.
Specific responsibilities include the following:
 

Strategic Visioning
:
  • In partnership with the Chair and the CFMA Officers, formulates and implements a dynamic strategic plan that identifies key opportunities for innovation aligned with CFMA’s mission and core values.
  • Develops comprehensive annual operating plans aligned to the strategic plan to ensure that the budget, staff, and program priorities continue to advance the core mission of the organization and provide value to CFMA members
  • Fosters an agile culture that anticipates trends and develops strategies that enable the organization to innovate, grow, and increase impact to members and the construction finance community.
Organizational Governance and Board Management:
  • Builds and maintains a trusting, collaborative, and transparent relationship with the Board of Directors, Chair, Officers and Executive Committee to ensure engagement among CFMA’s volunteer leadership.
  • Provides regular updates and feedback related to the strategic, operational, and programmatic matters impacting the organization, keeping the Officers and Executive Committee apprised of progress and challenges in meeting key goals and milestones.
Staff Leadership:
  • Fosters a positive work environment for staff by building and sustaining a culture of inclusion, diversity, transparency, and innovation. Provides a team-oriented and motivational leadership style that enhances the effectiveness of the staff, while developing future leaders for CFMA.
  • Recruits, develops, inspires, and engages staff to lead and administer the organization’s programs and services in support of the strategic plan and operational objectives. Ensures internal team commitment to excellent member service and delivery of high quality, innovative programs and services.
  • Sets a clear vision for goals and expectations, while encouraging an atmosphere that promotes innovation, collaboration, and teamwork to support the mission of the organization.
  • Leverages performance management processes for consistently evaluating and developing staff on an annual basis to ensure accountability, results and professional growth.
External Relations and Communications:
  • Develops strong working relationships with a wide range of external stakeholders to build and support partnerships and alliances consistent with CFMA’s overall mission (AGC, ENR, ABC, CIASP, NAWIC, AEMP, and others).
  • Serves as a primary spokesperson, amplifying the voice of the organization while elevating CFMA’s brand across myriad external audiences including industry leaders, members, the media, and others.
Member Development, Revenue Generation and Program Delivery:
  • Oversees all aspects of CFMA’s programs to ensure best-in-class educational offerings, programs, events, thought leadership, and other member services.
  • Identifies new opportunities to increase member engagement while also driving CFMA’s long-term financial growth and stability by attracting new audiences and partners to the organization.
  • Serves as a visible and engaged leader by attending regional conferences and special chapter events.
  • Proactively seeks opportunities to advance the organization’s mission in partnership with the chapter leadership across the United States and Canada and creates a culture of interconnectedness and inclusivity with these important internal stakeholders.
  • Builds engaged and meaningful partnerships with CFMA’s volunteers, Principal Partners and other key sponsors.
Financial & Operational Oversight:
  • Provides fiscal oversight and leadership to enhance the organization’s financial position, assuring the sustainable resources to fuel innovations for the future.
  • Develops and ensures a reasonable and well planned annual operating budget (currently at $8 million and growing) that is aligned with the strategic goals of the organization.
  • Attends as ex officio all Finance Committee Meetings, Investment Subcommittee Meetings and Audit Subcommittee Meetings. Serves as staff liaison to specific strategic committees.
  • In partnership with benefits consultant and Director of Finance, evaluates 401(k) plan, health plan and other employee benefits on an annual basis. Authorizes and execute such contracts, agreements and commitments as may be authorized by the Executive Committee or established policies.
  • In cooperation with the Finance Committee and the Officers, develops and maintains the appropriate budgetary procedure, oversees and authorizes the proper expenditure of funds and ensures that all funds, physical assets, and other property of the association are safe guarded and administered.
  • Creates new products and services to increase engagement and impact with members while generating non-dues revenue streams for the organization.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for the organization’s mission and possess the relevant experience, background, and leadership competencies to enhance the organization’s profile and further its impact. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of executive level leadership experience with an organization of similar scale and complexity.
 

Specific experience and qualifications will include the following:
  • Visionary leader capable of anticipating and addressing opportunities and challenges facing the industry and the organization, with the agility, drive, and energy to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills to serve as a credible and influential spokesperson. Inclusive, approachable, diplomatic, and decisive.
  • Exceptional communication skills; exudes passion and has an ability to inspire, engage, and influence others to achieve desired objectives, as well as to promote and expand an organization’s influence and impact.
  • Experience in diversifying revenue streams to ensure fiscal health and a strong financial future to support the organization’s operations and expansion strategy.
  • An ability to raise the visibility of CFMA’s mission among targeted audiences and forge strategic partnerships and coalitions with organizations that share common objectives.
  • Experienced staff leader, with demonstrated track record for attracting, developing, and inspiring strong talent and building and managing a high-performing team in a results-oriented, fast-paced environment. An inclusive leader who engages with staff at all levels of the organization and provides opportunities for growth and career development while keeping staff focused on the strategic goals of the association.
  • Must have strong business acumen and be a good manager of assets with demonstrated ability to steward and grow the organization's financial position.
  • Unquestionable integrity, credibility, character, demonstrated high moral and ethical behavior.
 

YEAR 1 CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS
  • Earns trust and establish relationships with existing staff to ensure as much stability as possible in the first 90 days.
  • Establishes and understands the current relationships with existing high value Principal Partners in the first 90 days.
  • Gains understanding and will have plans to drive CFMA’s new strategic plan by the end of the first six (6) months.
i. Builds and maintains an inclusive community.
ii. Strengthens processes, data and technology to support the mission of delivering exceptional member/stakeholder value.
iii. Continuously investigates new business models, services and identify emerging issues and products in support of members/stakeholders.
iv. Advances the construction industry ecosystem by being the leading authority for education, information and financial acumen.
v. Provides the educational and certification resources.
  • Increases principal partner income by 5% by the end of 2023-24 program year.
  • Achieves member renewal rate of 89%.
EDUCATION
A bachelor’s degree is required.
