Position Description:

Responsible for the administration of the Alpena Community College library and audio-visual service operations. Adaptability to work flexible hours (mix of split shift, days, evenings and weekends).

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, establish and administer learning support policies, programs and services consistent with the needs of the college programs.
  2. Manage, catalog, classify, select, order, discard, repair and replace materials for the library and audio-visual collections, as well as any specialized collections. Selection of materials is to be done with direct and indirect faculty and student input and to be consistent with the needs of the college programs.
  3. Serve as a library reference consultant for on- and off-campus ACC students, faculty and administrative staff.
  4. Maintain and supervise the computerized library catalog and digital databases, i.e. Overdrive
  5. Maintain and promote cooperative materials and information sharing relationships with other libraries and learning centers, in order to provide for ACC student, faculty and staff needs.
  6. Supervise support staff, promote professional and staff development and growth in new technologies.
  7. Administer personnel regulations and provide staff evaluations on a regular basis.
  8. Supervise technician(s) assigned to carry our audio-visual services. Coordinate with the office of information technology department for some audio-visual equipment functions.
  9. Maintain communication with professional groups, organizations, and other peer groups and individuals.
  10. Provide ACC library research training to ACC students, faculty and staff upon request.
  11. Keep library circulation records and other data that will be required for annual reports, the Higher Learning Commission and other reports and surveys.
  12. Work collaboratively with the testing center coordinator on specialized testing provided in the library, where applicable.
  13. Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Position Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in Library Science and Information technology required. From an American Library Association certified program preferred
  2. Library and/or Library administrative experience required.
  3. Minimum of two years’ experience with Information Technology and audio-visual equipment required.
  4. Experience at the community college or university library level experience preferred.
  5. Strong customer service orientation and people skills.
  6. Instructional expertise to guide users of the library.
  7. Understanding of academic library collection development.
  8. Familiar with needs of today’s students and staff, including staying up to date with the latest technology trends.
