Full Job Description

Under limited supervisor, the Career Center Director is responsible for providing career counseling and discussing career opportunities with MCC students and alumni. The Director serves as a campus-wide resource to assist students in identifying a pathway that joins their college program with their long-term career goals. The Director engages regularly with students to discuss job opportunities and to give guidance on career awareness, resume building, and interview preparation. The Director collaborates with Division Chairs, employers, and others to provide targeted career services specific to local and regional initiatives identified by employers as critical for student success.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, business administration or a related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • At least two (2) years increasingly responsible experience working with students, business and industry, the unemployed, or underemployed
  • Possession of and ability to maintain a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current certification to administer and provide counseling for career specific assessments such as the MBTI, DiSC, and True Colors
  • Knowledge of Clean Energy careers in North Carolina

Job Functions

  • Provide targeted career services specific to the STEPS4GROWTH grant for Clean Energy training and employment opportunities. Collaborate with NC A&T and other identified partners in collaboration with the grant for career initiatives
  • Develop and facilitate, in collaboration with NC Works as well as the Advanced Manufacturing chair and faculty, summer pre-apprentice career programming for middle school and high school students interested in employment in the Clean Energy sector and Advanced Manufacturing
  • Develop and implement programs and services that provide support and guidance to help students define career interests and explore career opportunities through the educational programs offered at MCC
  • Meet individually with students to administer career inventories, self-assessments, interest inventories; conduct workshops and classroom presentations on topics such as choosing the right career, resume building, interview preparation, hiring practices, workplace professionalism, transitioning from college to career, etc.
  • Lead and direct the operation of the MCC Career Center including establishing measurable goals for its successful operation
  • Conduct research and use labor market resources to analyze current and future employment trends within the community and region
  • Provide career literature and updated information on career and employment trends to faculty, staff, and students
  • Research and inform students of current opportunities for employment; provide instruction to students on the use of job opportunity research tools; develop job search strategies for students; coordinate job placement services for students and alumni seeking part-time or full-time jobs
  • Establish and maintain relationships with area employers encouraging the hiring of MCC graduates; establish and maintain relationships with job placement agencies
  • Manage an employment posting and job board (physical and virtual) with a focus on positions available to college-credentialed graduates in the service area of the college and adjacent counties
  • Organize and direct career fairs and employer recruiting events on an annual basis which serve the needs of current college students and alumni
  • Present to various groups on and off campus specific to career service programming
  • Compile data and maintain records to evaluate and report program objectives and success for the purpose of modifying and/or enhancing program structure
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop and facilitate requested career services specific to a class and/or program
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $41,905.00 - $52,381.00 per year
