This is a 12-month non-tenure-accruing position that will be 100% research (Florida Agricultural Experiment Station), available in the Entomology and Nematology Department, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit. 

Duties will include working within the Hodges lab and with our collaborative partners to manage grant-funded projects on field-related insect pest management, regulatory plant health, nematology diagnostics, statistics, and insect control. Primary responsibilities will include project management, experimental design, implementation, data collection, data analysis, laboratory management and ordering, drafting reports and manuscripts for publication, and other assignments as project needs dictate.

Because of the IFAS land-grant mission, all faculty are expected to be supportive and engaged in all three mission areas – Research Teaching, and Extension – regardless of the assignment split specified in the position description.

Background Information :

The Entomology and Nematology Department (http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/ ) has diverse teaching, research, and extension programs with 29 faculty members located on the main campus in Gainesville plus 38 faculty located at 11 Research and Education Centers (RECs) throughout the state.

Commensurate with Education and Experience

Minimum Requirements:

A Ph.D. (foreign equivalent acceptable) in some combination of nematology, entomology, pest management, or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates should have significant teaching experience, demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, and interpersonal relationships.  Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system.  Candidates must also have a commitment to IFAS core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountability. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Postdoctoral experience is desirable. An emphasis in insect pest management, nematology diagnostics, regulatory plant health and statistical analysis are desired. Experience with field data collection and an ability to drive field locations is expected.
