Job Description:

The College of Medicine, Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate. Candidate will be an important member in the Dr. Nguyen research lab. The postdoctoral associate will conduct key experiments to identify repeat expansion mutations that are associated with neurodegenerative disorders with unknown etiology in understanding disease causes and/or triggers and molecular basis of disease.

Perform experiments to identify and characterize novel repeat expansion mutations in the human genome, population association study, generate and characterize cellular, animal, and/or patient derived models of novel repeat expansion mutations and study disease mechanisms of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and/or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The successful candidate will be responsible for experimental design, conducting experiments, analyzing data, presenting the work at lab meetings, center and/or department seminars, and conferences, and preparing manuscripts for peer reviewed journals and grants, and supervising graduate students and staff.


Expected Salary:

$47,476.00 - $54,840.00 annually and starting salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Doctoral Degree

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience or knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
1. Tandem repeat and repeat expansion characterization
2. Animal models of neurodegenerative disorders
3. Patient derived models (e.g. cortical neuron, glia, and organoid models)
4. Immuno-based assays (e.g. immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, Western blot, MSD, and ELISA)
5. Disease mechanism study
6. Sequencing
7. Bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, and coding skills
