It is the academic mission of the George Washington University’s School of Business (GWSB) to be a preeminent business school recognized for scholarly research, teaching excellence, innovative curricula and focus on the responsible management of organizations in the global environment. In support of this mission, the GWSB Office of Graduate Admissions is searching for an Assistant Director, Recruiting and Admissions. This individual is a key contributor to providing high quality customer service to meet the recruitment and enrollment management needs of GWSB.

The Assistant Director of Recruiting and Admissions will assist in the planning and execution of the annual recruiting and admissions strategy as it pertains to graduate business enrollment, with responsibility for recruiting for our GWSB programs including MBA, MS, and non-degree programs. The position reports to the Associate Director, Graduate Admissions. This position does not have direct reports but may schedule, train and supervise temporary staff or student workers. With a passion for team-based work and clear dedication for fostering positive and collegial relationships, the Assistant Director will commit to the highest standards of professionalism, including tact, discretion and a customer service-oriented approach to the job.

This position typically represents the university both on campus and off campus in order to build relationships and analyze data to manage a recruitment territory, evaluate admissions applications and make recommendations regarding admissions decisions. The core responsibilities of this role are typically to execute strategic recruitment initiatives, to analyze recruitment data, to holistically evaluate applications and make recommendation for admissions decisions, to determine eligibility for special admissions programs, and to present recommendations to final review authority. This role may also plan, execute, and represent the university both on campus and off campus at events via information sessions, interviews, high school visits, college fairs, open houses and department events, and may coordinate special programs/projects in support of admissions efforts.

The key responsibilities include:
  • Responsible for coordinating admissions workflows to ensure timely processing of admissions records, admissions decisions, and related updates.
  • Works closely with the application processing staff to resolve issues and stay abreast of changing protocols; reports issues and changes to the Director of Graduate Admissions Operations.
  • Provide assistance to the Graduate Business Admissions Team in the management of the prospect and applicant database (currently Salesforce, Target-X and Banner). This includes updating of prospect and applicant data in our database and use of the database to effectively provide service to our prospective students.
  • Implement operation functions, including but not limited to Change of Term, Change of Major, and Deferral of Admission requests, or scholarship processing activities.
  • Interact and work with Program Directors and Advisors as well as the Career Services Team to ensure superior customer service to prospects, applicants and enrolled students.
  • Assist as needed with the planning and execution of recruiting activities/events. This may include helping to develop communication plans, procedures or polices that aid in the implementation of strategic initiatives.
  • Assist colleagues with processing applications and coordinating the file review procedure including interviewing and file evaluation.
  • Provide assistance to the Graduate Admissions Team in managing Student Assistants, who are essential in carrying out office duties. Assistance includes: scheduling office hours, training and coordination of the master event schedule; ensuring assigned projects are being completed on time and within quality standards; analyzing the effectiveness of projects assigned to the Student Assistants.
  • Manage relationships with the University Graduate Admissions office, International Admissions office, and Central IT office, among others.
  • Complete various other projects and duties as assigned.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Hybrid work arrangement, in which individual will need to commit a minimum of 60% of their regular workweek at the primary GWU location.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team skills and the ability to effectively and positively interact with a diverse range of people; experience in or potential to work in a culturally diverse work environment.
  • Experience in supervising data entry and administrative support staff, by providing clear expectations, training and frequent feedback.
  • Superior written and verbal communication as well as presentation skills.
  • Experience working with databases (Salesforce, Target-X, and Banner), financial reporting, and scholarship management systems is preferred, but not required.
  • Impeccable judgment and discretion in dealing with issues pertaining to confidentiality.
  • Customer service oriented.

Typical Hiring Range
$43,171.64 - $59,402.83
