Job Description

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Associate position (non-tenure track) under Dr. Lingjia Liu (http://www.lingjialiu.ece.vt.edu) in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech. The position involves conducting research in the space of networking, security, and applying machine learning tools to wireless networks, with a particular focus on device-to-device communications and non-terrestrial networks (NTN). Research is intended to contribute to multiple externally sponsored projects that are focusing on designing network protocols for secure, energy-efficient, and spectral-efficient communication using machine learning tools. Successful candidate is also expected to work with researchers within the group as well as those in Wireless@Virginia Tech on enabling technologies for NextG including theoretical analysis and prototype building. The position's responsibilities include: conducting independent research in these spaces developing publications for top venues including journals, conferences, and workshops; mentoring PhD students to work in these spaces; and developing proposals to various funding agencies such as National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Defense (DoD), National Spectrum Consortium (NSC), Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI), etc.


Required Qualifications

- PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering or Computer Science or a related field with a networking background. PhD must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.
- Publications in these areas and a strong theoretical background in optimization.
- Evidence of developing publications based on individual research.


Preferred Qualifications

- Demonstrated creativity, independence, and high motivation.
- Existing publication records in top networking venues such INFOCOM, IEEE ToN, etc
