Program Manager

Job Summary:

As part of the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs team, within the Office of the Vice President for Research at UT Health San Antonio, that provides support to postdoctoral research fellows, the incumbent will manage various aspects of programming to include career and professional development, recruitment, outreach & retention.

Prior experience in career development programming, with some experience with recruitment activities are preferred. Experience advising postdocs is a plus. Some data management and/or statistical analysis skills are required.

Job Duties:

  • Collaborates internally and externally to provide professional development and non-academic skills training for postdocs (“Developing Your IDP” workshops, “Career Exploration” Workshops, etc.).
  • Organizes and participates in existing and recurring OPA programs (F-Troop, Primer, Entering Mentoring), and events (San Antonio Postdoctoral Research Forum, Pathways to Careers in Science).
  • Develops annual plan for OPA programs that is measurable and can be tracked; assists with establishing new initiatives to enhance experience and well-being of postdoctoral research fellows at institution.
  • Provides administrative support for and oversees institutionally mandated programs: (i) Rigor and Reproducibility Workshops; and (ii) Responsible Conduct of Research (monthly Spotlight on Research Integrity Series).
  • Manages recruitment programming (e.g., develop new programs such as an annual postdoc recruitment event); identify and assist with establishment of best practices in postdoc recruitment at institution.
  • Maintains all data associated with major and new OPA initiatives.
  • Conducts exit interviews with postdoctoral research fellows.
  • Creates content and maintains OPA webpages and social media; creates printed and electronic materials for OPA events and activities.
  • Participates in annual meetings of national organizations that involve postdocs and postdoctoral training - National Postdoctoral Association, American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) GREAT, SACNAS, ABRCMS, etc.).
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Education:

    Bachelor's degree required.

    Master's or PhD degree in biomedical sciences or behavioral sciences is strongly preferred.

    Experience:

    • Minimum three (3) years’ experience with Master’s degree (required); one (1) year experience required with a PhD (preferred).
      • Strong project management, organizational, time management and decision-making skills.
      • Previous work experience in a university research environment.
      • Experience in programming for postdocs (preferred); experience advising postdocs and data management and/or statistical analysis skills are pluses.
