Job Summary

The Campus Systems Administrator is responsible for the administration and management of campus academic servers and systems that support Campus Network Services and the overall campus administrative and academic network for students, faculty, staff, and administrators. This position is responsible for managing, configuring, and maintaining the campus servers, storage, and other related resources, creating and managing user accounts, group policies, organization units, end user images, and other network resources. The Campus Network System Administrator is expected to assist in planning department goals and objectives, as well as identifying, testing, and implementing technologies congruent to the mission and goals of college and campus. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College’s District Board of Trustees.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Makes daily decisions in the process of performing daily system administration tasks to support systems used in academic labs, library, courtyard and by students, faculty, staff, and administrators
  • Analyzes, assesses, determines, and proposes production system configurations and changes
  • Installs, configures, and maintains systems software for campus labs, courtyard, and library
  • Provides timely and rapid responses to issues related to the campus network
  • Installs, configures, and maintains servers and related computing resources, including network security, backup of servers, disaster recovery, documentation of resources, optimization of server performance and reliability
  • Creates and maintains scripts to update systems, deploy software, images, and updates for student, faculty, staff, and administration workstations
  • Provides systems level support for applications and client workstations, including creating and maintaining  images for campus workstations
  • Creates and maintains enterprise level organization units and group polices
  • Develops and maintains system documentation, policies, and procedures
  • Completes and provides status and statistical reports of systems
  • Purchases systems, hardware, and software
  • Remains current in certifications and technologies related to position
  • Trains, manages, and evaluates employee performance
  • Provides work coverage and administrative notification during periods of personnel absence
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in an appropriate field and two (2) years of experience in networking and/or enterprise level computing with at least one (1) year of experience maintaining network servers and supervising technical staff; or Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field and six (6) years of experience in networking and/or enterprise level computing, with at least one (1) year of experience maintaining network servers and supervising technical staff
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Possess experience with Windows Operating Systems, Active Directory, group policies, and organization units
  • Possess experience managing network storage, virtual servers, writing scripts to maintain systems and software on workstations and servers
  • Possess experience with end point protection (virus, spyware, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of network and system administration
  • Knowledge of multi-user operating systems, and equipment configuration
  • Knowledge of authentication, network services access policies and related internal and external network security considerations
  • Knowledge of  virtualization technologies, Windows Active Directory, group policies, and management tools as well as Linux, scripting tools, reporting tools, programming languages, relational database systems, and instructional equipment
  • Familiarity with the Internet and generally available Internet services
  • Proficiency in organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and work well under limited time constraints
  • Knowledge of current and developing information technology services requirements in a large educational institution
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
