Job Summary:

The Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine has a full time opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the laboratory Dr. Yen-Rei Yu. The postdoctoral fellow will be working in the area of immunology and pulmonary vascular diseases, studying the mechanisms involved in immune regulation of pulmonary vascular remodeling and the response of the lung vasculature to hypoxia and other injuries. Specifically, the post-doctoral fellow will perform mechanistic studies in hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension animal models as well as in tissues/cells from PH patients.

The Yu lab employs physiological, molecular, and translational approaches. The labs utilize a wide variety of model systems including primary human pulmonary vascular cells (Fibroblast, smooth muscle cell and endothelial cells) and lung tissues, small animals (mice and rats). Current projects include studies of the immune cell in regulating pulmonary vascular diseases in PH animals and patient tissues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform experiments using advanced biomedical research techniques and develop new methods/applications
  • Record and interpret results of experiments: tabulate research data and maintain a detailed, easily understandable laboratory notebook
  • Modify, test, verify and analyze research data
  • Present results in a variety of settings, including lab meetings, project meetings, and national/international meetings
  • Prepare grant applications, as necessary

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • PhD degree in life sciences such as Cancer Biology, Immunology, cell biology, molecular biology, or related field (PhD must be conferred prior to starting position, but need not be completed at time of application)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with transcription factors and chromatin structure
  • Prior experience with analyses of “omics” data
  • A working knowledge of molecular biology

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The applicant must have documented training and experience in molecular/cell biology and/or animal models. The applicant should be motivated, maintain methodic and careful work practices, have interest in learning new skills and knowledge, have excellent communication skills, be able to have flexible work schedule as required for completion of study goals and enjoy teamwork. Moreover, the successful applicant is expected to have an ability to work independently, a strong work ethic and a commitment to becoming an independent scientist with excellent skills in scientific writing.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as $54,840 to $64,296 and in accordance with NIH stipend guidelines.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
