Position Summary

The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition seeks a Research Associate (Postdoctoral Researcher) to work in Dr. Felicia Wu’s research program.  The primary responsibilities for this position are to assist in the implementation of several different research projects related to food safety and human health, funded by NIH, USDA, and USAID. The primary duties will include: 1) Assessing the risk of foodborne chemicals and toxins in crops grown in the United States, and milk in Ethiopia. 2) Evaluating the risk reduction and economic potential of various solutions to reduce pathogens in US food. 3) Assessing the nutritional and healthy equity risks that result from shocks to the US food system, such as climate change, global wars, and pandemics; if prices of certain foods rise. 4) Analyzing and reporting the results of this research, including in peer-reviewed journal articles and professional presentations. 5) Assisting in management of the students in Dr. Wu’s research team on their projects within this broad scope of work. Some domestic and international travel in support of this project may be required.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Food Science, Human Nutrition, Agriculture


Minimum Requirements
  • A doctoral degree in Food Science, Human Nutrition, Agricultural Economics, Environmental Health Sciences, Engineering, or a related discipline, with a demonstration of quantitative and statistical skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
  • Ability to manage and oversee the work of several graduate and undergraduate students.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in risk analysis.
  • Experience in US and international food safety risks and policies.
  • Experience in developing and delivering communication messages on food safety/food standards concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Good organizational skills.
