Job Summary

Primary responsibilities involve installing maintaining and updating Police Department Systems and monitoring, detecting, protecting and maintaining the security of Police data, systems and networks. In partnership with IT, plans, configures, designs, develops, implements and maintains tools, systems and procedures to ensure the integrity, reliability and security of data, systems and networks. Ensures that the department complies with DOJ and CJIS Security Standards.


Department Description

The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Police Department provides contemporary police services including criminal investigation, community policing, crime prevention and suppression, emergency management, and site security services to a daily population of over 50,000 people at University and contract locations. Founded in 1864, UCSF includes the 107-acre Parnassus campus that is home to graduate professionals in dentistry, medicine, nursing and pharmacy; a graduate division for pre and postdoctoral scientists; UCSF Medical Center; UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals; and Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute. UCSF is considered one of the nation’s premier health sciences teaching, training, and research centers. UCSF is the only UC campus dedicated exclusively to the health sciences.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • 3-5 years relevant progressive experience
  • Proficiency in programming languages (C/C++/C#, PHP, Javascript, VB, ASP, PASCAL, SQL, CGI/Perl, batch script, powershell, python).
  • Knowledge of computer hardware, software and network security issues and approaches.
  • Basic skill at reading and interpreting security logs.
  • Ability to follow department processes and procedures.
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Experience installing maintaining and  updating computer software and hardware.
  • Demonstrated skills applying security controls to computer software and hardware.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of other areas of IT, department processes and procedures.
  • Experience in incident response and digital forensics including data collection, examination and analysis.
