Job Description:

The Training Director will provide oversight for the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) Training Program, including the American Psychological Association (APA)-accredited Doctoral Internship Program in Health Service Psychology and the CAPS Practicum Training Program. Primary duties include leadership of the Doctoral Internship and Program including coordination of supervision of interns, development and implementation of training curricula, annual recruitment of diverse and qualified intern candidates, and maintenance of internship program compliance with APA Standards of Accreditation and Association of Psychology
Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) requirements. The Training Director will supervise the Coordinator of the CAPS Practicum Program for advanced students in Clinical and Counseling Psychology and the School of Social Welfare.

The Training Director will assist the Director of CAPS with administrative oversight of CAPS operations and coordination of clinical, consultation, and well-being and mental health promotion services. Additional duties include the delivery of direct clinical and consultation services and well-being and mental health promotion programming. The successful candidate will participate in CAPS evaluation, research, and quality improvement activities. The Training Director will engage with the Division of Student Affairs; other University at Albany departments and units; and professional organizations, partners, and stakeholders external to the campus community, including the APA Office of Program Consultation and Accreditation and APPIC.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Provide leadership for the CAPS Training Program, including our American Psychological Association (APA)-accredited Doctoral Internship Program in Health Service Psychology and our Practicum Program. Responsibilities include providing administrative oversight of the Doctoral Internship Program; leading and coordinating supervision of doctoral interns, developing and coordinating the implementation of training curricula; maintaining internship compliance with APA Standards of Accreditation; and supervising the coordinator of the CAPS Practicum Program. 
  • Assist the Director of CAPS with administrative oversight of CAPS operations and coordination of clinical, consultation, and well-being and mental health promotion services. In the absence of both the Director and Associate Director, perform those administrative duties necessary to maintain the operation of CAPS. 
  • Provide clinical and consultation services in CAPS including individual, couples, and group counseling; clinical crisis intervention; and mental health consultation for faculty, staff, students, and families.
  • Provide administrative supervision for unlicensed CAPS Staff Psychologists. 


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree from an American Psychological Association-accredited program in  clinical or counseling psychology conferred from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
  • Successful completion of an American Psychological Association-accredited Doctoral Internship in Professional Psychology or Health Service Psychology
  • A New York State license in Professional Psychology or an equivalent license in another state that is transferrable to a New York State license upon relocation to New York
  • Five years of experience in the provision of diagnostic, treatment, and consultation services
  • Three years of experience in the supervision of trainees within an APA-accredited Doctoral Internship Program
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse populations including BIPOC students, LGBTQ+ students, students with disabilities, and international students; applicants must address in their cover letters their experience and ability to work with individuals and populations representing individual and cultural diversity
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, including skill in providing effective leadership for professional colleagues, as well as trainees
  • Strong diagnostic and clinical skills and experience in working with a broad array of psychological, emotional, and developmental concerns
