Position Summary Information

 

Qualifications Required
-Ability to read and follow technical instructions to set up and convert equipment for winter operations. Complete repairs and service on equipment. Ability to use hand and power tools. Will be responsible for maintaining a plan to keep landscape beds weeded, trimmed, and fertilized. Coordinate and assist the part-time crew with mowing and trimming. Has the ability to follow instructions in completing landscape and maintenance tasks. Read and understand reports, memos, and product labels. This is generally acquired by completing high school and less than six months of vocational training beyond high school. Arborist Certification preferred, but not required.

-Requires knowledge of general policies and procedures. Ability to follow instructions, complete assignments, have good problem-solving skills, good oral and written communication skills, be well organized, and work independently without close supervision. This level of knowledge is typically acquired during six through twelve months of work-related experience.

-A moderate level of analytical ability for irrigation repairs, calibrating spreaders, sprayers for proper fertilizer and insecticide applications. Ability to obtain a State Pesticide Commercial Applicators license, and a category 04 – Ornamental and Turf Pest Control. Mix appropriate dilutions for chemicals and ensure safety precautions are followed for exposure to self and others. And maintain application records.

-Substantial level of physical effort required to operate snow blowers, shovel snow, push spreaders for de-icing, etc. Make routine rounds throughout the day to maintain sidewalks and entrances during snowfalls.

-Basic interpersonal skills needed to interact with staff, students, faculty, and visitors who require staff assistance.

-Substantial level of physical effort required to move supplies and equipment weighing 21 – 40 pounds 21 – 50% of the time. Working at heights and in tight close areas, occasional exposure to electrical shock and moving or rotating equipment, body fluids, odors, and gases. Ability to climb ladders for repairs, painting, etc. Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools 6 to 20% of work time.
General Summary
Will be responsible for performing groundskeeping, landscaping, and maintenance duties. Performs tasks necessary to maintain the campus safely, clean, and presentable to provide a comfortable learning and working environment for students, staff, faculty, and visitors. Will perform duties and responsibilities in accordance with college policies and procedures.

Responsible for groundskeeping duties, including mowing, trimming, landscaping, mulching, weeding, working on lawn irrigation system, planting, proper tree pruning. Take part in landscape bed installs. Take part in design and installs of annual flower plantings. Keeps grounds free of trash, monitors, and dumps exterior trash receptacles.

Responsible for fertilizer, herbicide, and pesticide applications. Keep an inventory of chemicals and ensure correct labeling and storage is maintained.

Operates power machines such as mowers, trimmers, tillers, aerial lifts, chainsaws and other types of equipment. Performs general maintenance to groundskeeping equipment. Will convert and prep equipment for snow removal during the winter months.

May assist with routine preventative and emergency maintenance tasks to include but not limited to: lubrication, filter replacement, and bulb replacement. Assist in tasks relating to repair and maintenance, including painting, carpet repair, and PM’s for roofs.

Removes snow from campus sidewalks, streets, and parking lots and applies ice melt by hand or equipment. Will operate and perform the general maintenance on assigned snow removal equipment and provide information to maintain campus snow logs.
