Job Description

Carnegie Mellon University’s department of Chemical Engineering is searching for a Postdoctoral Fellow.  This is a dynamic opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by working in the Biegler research group to develop new formulations and solution strategies for economic nonlinear model predictive control, and other duties as assigned to you.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Problem formulation, stability analysis, prototype of solution strategy, and demonstration on test problems.

  • Documenting research results for use in project sponsor status reports and publications and assist in the search and application for supplemental and/or ongoing funding for current and future research projects, travel grants and/or foundation awards.

  • Plan, coordinator and distribute information for meetings, conferences and publications and conduct occasional meetings with project sponsor personnel. 

  • Other duties as assigned.

The position is funded for one year with a potential for renewal and is inclusive of competitive salary and benefits. The starting date is flexible, but May 2023 is desired. You should demonstrate:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong research experience, documented by recent publications in top-tier conferences and journals

  • Strength in Process Systems Engineering

  • Motivation and creativity

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering or related field

  • 1 year of research experience
