Genentech

Job Description

The Position

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow with a strong background in biophysics and biochemistry to join the Pharmaceutical Development department at Genentech. The focus of this position will be to discern the physio-chemical basis of liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) and gelation behavior of monoclonal antibodies and similar therapeutic protein molecules at high concentration. These phenomena can negatively impact the formulation, manufacture and delivery of therapeutic proteins and are, therefore, a major concern for the department. A mechanistic understanding of the interactions driving self-association has implications for designing improved therapeutic molecules. A major objective of this position will be to develop a predictive model for antibody LLPS and gelation. Developing biophysical tools for dilute solutions that are predictive of high concentration behavior is essential for this goal.

Requirements:

  • Candidate should have recently obtained or will soon obtain a PhD in one of the following fields: Biochemistry, biophysics, cell biology, or molecular biology. Computational biology skills are desirable but not required.

  • Enthusiasm in tackling complex biological problems, vigorous scientific logics and solid technical skills are essential qualities.

  • Qualified candidates must have strong publication record to demonstrate productivity and independent thinking.
