Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Under direct supervision, functions as a lead worker for a team of groundskeepers performing manual labor duties in a variety of landscape maintenance tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience:
One year as a groundskeeper.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of the general care of grounds; of techniques for cultivating, planting, mowing, and caring for lawns, gardens, shrubs and trees.
  • Working knowledge of and skill in the operation and proper care of assigned hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations; to follow oral and written instructions; to perform work in, on, around, under, and over trees, shrubs, buildings and facilities; to work at heights up to 35 feet; to perform physical work requiring bending, stooping, reaching, carrying and heavy lifting; to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.

Additional Certifications:

Must possess and maintain a valid Maryland Class C driver’s license (or equivalent) with fewer than 6 points.

Physical Demands

Must be able to work in adverse weather and temperature extremes and be free from debilitating pollen allergies and the like. The employee must have the ability to perform the physical requirements of the position including the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and on occasion up to 100 pounds; stand and walk continuously; lift, stoop, and/or bend for extended periods of time; wear and work with the use of personal protective equipment (gloves, goggles, etc.). The shift hours are from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

This position is Essential and is subject to 24 hour day/7 day week span of operation.
