Postdoctoral Fellows: Super-Resolution Imaging of Cancer and Immunity

Job Description

Three postdoctoral positions are available in the Frank Xie lab at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute (LRI) and Case Comprehensive Cancer Center to study genome structure, dynamics and regulatory mechanisms in cancer and immunity.

The Xie lab is situated in the historical city of Cleveland in the U.S. state of Ohio, where the 100-year-old Cleveland Clinic is constantly ranked as one of the top two national hospital systems. The Xie lab develops unique tools and integrates super-resolution imaging and live-cell single-molecule imaging methods with modern genomics and genome engineering approaches to quantitatively study the 4D architecture and dynamics of the mammalian genome, and the fundamental genome regulatory mechanisms in cancer and immunity.  With a state-of-the-art microscopy system actively operating in the lab, we aim to uncover fundamental mechanisms by which the epigenetic network (e.g., writers, reader, effectors) and biomolecular condensates regulate human genome structure and function with the hope of discovering new druggable targets to improve cancer therapeutics and to fight against infection. Representative research articles include: Xie et al., Nature Methods, 2020 ; Xie et al, Nature Genetics, 2022 ; King*, Yost*, Xie* et al., Nature, 2021 ; Xie et al., Mol.Sys.Bio, 2021 ; Xie et al., Genes & Development, 2017 ; Knight, Xie et al., Science, 2015 . More details can be found at https://frankxielab.com/ .

We are building a multidisciplinary team of biologists, physicians, data scientists, tool builders, engineers et al. to study frontiers of genome regulation in cancer and immunity. We are recruiting at least three enthusiastic and motivated postdoctoral researchers to study emerging questions in cancer genome regulation and the crosstalk between cancer and immunity. The candidates should have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree with demonstrated track-records of research publications (e.g., first author peer-reviewed articles) and good English communication skills. Preference will be given to self-driven and detail-orientated candidates. Preference will be given to candidates with prior solid experiences in cell biology, biochemistry, animal models and engineering.

The compensation for postdoctoral fellows is based on NIH standards and commensurate with past research experiences. Excellent insurance and benefit packages from Cleveland Clinic are included. Successful candidates will have access to enormous clinic and medical resources at Cleveland Clinic and will participate and expand collaborations with physician scientists and clinicians to translate benchside research to bedside. Postdoctoral fellows will perform mentored independent research, lead cutting-edge projects, acquire solid research experiences, and participate in guided collaborations, with the encouragement to develop unconventional ideas, risky projects, and interdisciplinary approaches. Trainees are expected to present at (inter)national conferences, practice writing grant applications, and develop solid research expertise to solve leading-edge biomedical questions. By the end of the training, postdoctoral candidates are anticipated to equip with top-tier journal publications, critical thinking, multidisciplinary mindsets, and excellent communication skills competitive for their next level of career advancement.

Interested individuals should directly email Dr. Liangqi (Frank) Xie at XIEL2@ccf.org and xielab.2021@gmail.com with the title line as Xie_lab_Postdoc_Application

The postdoctoral fellow application material must include the following information.

1)  A cover letter describing prior research background, future research interests, career goals, and estimated start time.

2)  A CV, including publications and contact information for 3 referees.

Failure to comply with above requirements will not be proceeded for consideration.
