Title | Postdoctoral positions in lattice field theory focused on performance analysis |
---|---|
Appointment Status | Non-Tenure Track |
Department | IU Bloomington Physics |
Position Summary | The Physics Department at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for two postdoctoral positions in lattice field theory. One position is focused on performance analysis and optimization of the MILC code for configuration generation (with possible extensions to support GPUs with QUDA or Grid). This position will help in the design of the next generation of highest performance computer for the National Science Foundation. The second position will investigate enhancement of multigrid algorithms for staggered quarks. It will involve collaboration with applied mathematicians as well as lattice field theorists at Boston University and the University of Utah. Both positions will allow the successful applicant to interact with members of the Fermilab Lattice and MILC Collaborations. The positions may start on October 1, 2023, or earlier and the applicant should indicate how soon it would be possible to start. Review of applications will begin December 15, 2022, and continue until the positions are filled. |
Basic Qualifications | A Ph.D. in theoretical physics with work in lattice field theory is required by the time the position is started. |
Department Contact for Questions | Informal inquiries may be made to Prof. Steven Gottlieb (sg@indiana.edu). |
Additional Qualifications | |
Salary and Rank | |
Special Instructions | Applications should include a cover letter and CV and should detail the applicant’s familiarity and experience with the following lattice QCD codes: MILC, QUDA, and Grid. Any experience with performance analysis tools and production running on supercomputers should also be described. Three letters of recommendation will be required. Contact information for three individuals who can provide the letters should be submitted through the application portal located at https://indiana.peopleadmin.com/postings/13952 for the position focusing on performance analysis and https://indiana.peopleadmin.com/postings/13988 for the position that will investigate enhancement of multigrid algorithms for staggered quarks. Applicants are welcome to apply for either or both positions. The College of Arts and Sciences is committed to building and supporting a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community of students and scholars.
